Recognize this (vacuum?) hose? P0171 code on 2004 C230

Hi,
So grateful for all the amazing info on this forum!
I have a 2004 C230 Kompressor Sedan and am diagnosing a P0171 code. I found a hose loose under the air box while cleaning the MAF (see pic of someone else's car, presumably with hose correctly attached). Could this be the culprit?
Cleaned MAF, throttle body, re-replaced $12 hose, changed both 02 sensors and no joy.

Before I replace MAF want to make sure not something simple. I'll Probably try vacuum smoke test next.

Thanks, Jim

There is a TSB on those engines for the vacuum hose that runs down to the side of the engine, the plastic connector breaks, or the hose, or a variety of pieces. You have to loosen the supercharger to get in there and replace them, but it's not a bad job, just a little time consuming.

Thanks for the reply, Joe.

Yes, i did the "easy" $12 hose, but not keen on doing the two underneath the supercharger -- Is there a DIY write up on those hoses & valve?
This guy:
did a great job of showing the hoses, but no detail on how to change them out.

I'm just hoping I can attach the loose hose(see photo i posted) to something and fix this without more time under/over the car

The last one I had to fix, the hose was split on the end where it attaches down by the side of the engine, between the supercharger and block. I had to loosen the blower and let it move over so I could squeeze in there and install the new hose. I don't think there's a "simple" way if that's what happened to yours.

That hose is part of the emissions system, and in this case what it does is irrelevant, if it need to replaced then just replace it because it has to be there....

It's a standard size vacuum hose. Any parts store, or even Walmart, will have it.

Imho, you should replace the complete hose. That hose, and others, are known to degrade and break over time.
For now, you could just get a simple vacuum hose connector, and connect the broken sections.

To fully replace the hose, I think that you have to take off the air filter housing. That can be a semi pain. Since you're not familiar with typical vacuum hoses, *I* would recommend against do that.

So, I'd suggest just getting a simple vacuum hose connector (parts store, or Walmart), and connect the two sections of vacuum hose together.

Price: $7.46

Good Luck!

not a merc
It's the vacuum supply for the air injection and gets its supply from just behind the throttle body
