C230K
Adios/Adieu/Farewell

To all C class forum dwellers:

My brian finally won out over my heart, and I bade farewell to the C230K today.

After having satisfied myself that the safety related issues were cured, and that my potential lemon law case was weak, we traded our K on a Volvo S60T. I also did not feel that my dealership's service department served me well, and after my experience last Friday, I did not relish the prospect of dealing with another brain donor in a MB shirt.

The Volvo dealer was so keen to deal, that they even ate the 4k difference between trade-in and what we still owed, allowing a stress-free resolution to my problems with MB.

So guys, have a good time, and WyattEarp and Buellwinkle, keep up the controversy - our constitution is based on a system of checks and balances - everyone agreeing with each other is not a good thing.

Cheers

Raymond

Good luck with your new S60T. Have a S60 2.4t (2001) for the past year and no problems. It's a great four door car, fun to drive and enjoy changing from the C230 Coupe when my wife let's me.
Best of luck, might see you on one of the Volvo forms.

raymond - which DFW dealer was so poor? My car is on the way (I bought it from Ewing) and I want to get service at the "good dealer" if there is such a thing.

I DIDN'T get mine at Ewing. I've heard they're pretty good. As with banks, I believe it's up to the individual with whom you deal, and I cannot complain about my service adviser or the service director - the problem was in between.

BTW, I have an in-dash CD player (Audio 10) if you're interested - I'll even help you install it.

Enjoy your C230K.

Cheers

Thanks for the good words.

Any links to Volvo forums you can let me have? I do not want to find a Volvo forum the way I found this one (i.e. searching for fuel pump problems on Google)

Cheers

Congrats on your new ride, and good luck with it. That is a fine automobile! Too many cars, too little money...
Drop in once in a while and let us know how our Swedish friends are doing these days with their cars.

Hey C230K, I think I saw you when I was down for bike week a few weeks ago. We were riding north on the road that goes to the state park, and a red C230 was going south. I about wrecked looking at your car since I hadn't seen a red one yet. I figure it must be you since how many red coupes could there be in Ormond Beach. BTW, I have a red Ducati Monster 900 that would go well with your car!

Hi Raymond,

Sorry to hear things did not work out with your C230. A forum you might want to look into is www.swedespeed.com. Good luck with your new car! By the way..did you get the 2.4 T or the 2.3 T5?

Alas, it is the 2.4 low pressure turbo. Still, pretty quick if you consider that it's almost 300lbs lighter than the C230K. It does suffer from turbo lag at pull off though...

Hupps.. Didn't read the previous post carfully enough to realize my suggested forum was already suggested... Sorry!

Raymond. I have a friend working in Volvo's design depratment (in Gothenburg, Sweden). He told me that the 2.4T-engine is the best (most reliable) engine Volvo offers right now. Good choice! Most reliable engine ever made by Volvo is (according to the same source) the B20.

NO don't go!

Sorry to see you go, though congratulations on a fortunate resolution to the problems you were having.

Before you go though - I have an Audio 10 coming soon ... can you tell me where to look for instructions on how to install it?

I found partial instructions on this forum. I did a search for "CD changer Installation".

They are, however, incomplete.

Thanks for the info. I have 2 friends with S60s (non-turbo) that say that it is the best car they've ever owned, with absolutely no problems in the first year. I hope we're as lucky.

My wife is very happy, as we got almost all the features we had in the C230K, plus some extras, like leather and driver/passenger memory electric seats, that we didn't I like RWD, but what can I do?

BTW this is my second Volvo. In the mid 80's I had a 1968 Volvo 144S - built like a tank and totally reliable, even if it was almost 20 years old. Had 250 000 km on it when I sold it, and it didn't use a drop of oil.

Cheers

Didn't the 144s have the B20-engine or was it the B18? Anyway, I'm almost getting nostalgic here... First car I ever drove (when I was 4yo sittin' in dads lap), was dads -68 Volvo 142. He bought that car new in 1968 and passed it on to my brother in 1979. It was in the family 'til 1983 and the only problem with it, ever, was a broken alternator. Hope the Volvo-cars of today will turn out to be just as reliable!

Good luck and happy driving. You know, the turbo-lag can be cured (or anyway less significant) with a chip

It's a small world. That was me, just live two blocks off Beach St. My car is the only one,so far, that's magma red with C7 in the Daytona Area.
Daytona has spring break and last week and a import car show. Went cruising and my Coupe draw a lot of attention (guess the car plus the Magam red). You all would not believe, think I could have sold a least a dozen, most though the car was $40k plus and were shocked at $30k or less. I know Raymond will enjoy his S60, as do I, it's rock solid.

I find it weird sometimes how two people, who are probably totally different to one another, can choose the same cars, although, for me, not simultaneously, but indeed consecutively.

Thumbs up

I also lived in Arlington, Texas for 20 years and did a lot of X-auto with Equipe Rapide sports car club in Dallas. Also I fine little to no turbo lad in the 2.4t like ours compared to the T5. I have the Auto and shift option. For a big sedan It really moves. Bought 850 GLT when they first came out, then 1995 850 T5 and in 1998 the S60. The S60 is by far the best yet and the engine is bullit proof. See you on the Volvo form as C70200 oh and yes had the C70 (love it) before I traded for the C230. Hey love Cars
All the best
Tom
