I believe Jake replaced his U.S. style center console with a Euro-style model which either does not have a cup holder or uses a different type of cup holder. He made the changes early enough in his ownership that the chromed plastic ring was still in good condition when he sent it to me.

If you look at one of my earlier posts you can see that I painted my trim ring black. It looks better than the bare yellow plastic, but not as good as the OEM chromed plastic. I may paint my older cup holder trim ring metallic silver to see whether it looks better.

I have found this (MOLOTOW) to be some of the best “chrome paint” to be out there…especially when working on a handmade DTR shield…

True, my car has a ROW (rest of world) center console from @MBenzNL …now with full illumination and ambient lighting!

That's a nice looking center console do the buttons work and what are they for?

Doesn't look like MBenzNL comes on here at all anymore... need to find a supplier of parts know any one else?

I just went through your whole thread. I never realized how neglected your car was when you got it and how much work you've done.
Great summary thread and links to seperate threads. Easy read and very well organized. How many miles now?

Thanks for the affirmation. "Neglected" may be too strong a term. The car needed work, but based on the Carfax, it appeared that the previous owners had taken care of routine maintenance. Also, when I did some jobs such as replacing the spark plugs and changing the lubricants in the transmission and differential, it appeared that someone had already been there.

When I bought the car, I intended to clean it up and drive it for about 3 years until my daughter completed school and I had some cash flow for a new car. I admit my perfectionist tendency and "mod fever" took over and I did more work than I planned.

Overall, I have positive emotions about the car. I am closing in on 202,000 miles and will have owned the car 8 years this August. I am planning to keep it until it suffers some catastrophe. I like cars with manual transmissions, and there are not many cars available with a stick that I consider a reasonably priced replacement for my C230.

I think the results met my expectations.

I couldn't remove the oil filter, so that is a task for another day after a trip to buy a bigger wrench.
Nice photos!
