Turn signal stuck on

2005 C230K, 150k miles

So awhile back the left front turn signal on my car came on and never shut off. Stays on 24/7, even with the key removed. I tried swapping the bulbs from R to L, no change, which tells me it is an issue with the light or that side, not the bulb. I have done a lot of searching and it seems like the SAM could be my issue. Everything I found that was SAM related was for other cars, not specifically the C230, so I am just looking for some clarification from someone who knows more than me. Also, if it is the SAM, what part specifically is that? I found a parts car on CL that I could pull from, so I want to make sure I get the right part. Also, I read somewhere that the SAM had to be programmed to your car, is that true?

Thanks

As in the bulb stays on and drains the battery even when the car is parked?

Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, we're talking about the turn signal and not the parking lights, which are controlled by the headlight switch?

Yes, bulb stays on at all times, does not flash. It would drain the battery if I left it like that, I just rotated the housing partially like you would to remove it, that breaks the contact and keeps the bulb off, I just have no front turn signal on that side.

That actually isn't too bad of an idea, as your mirror blinkers would do the job of that bulb.

With that said, that sounds like a SAM or relay issue. Have you tried swapping the corresponding relay?

I have the same problem. Front left turn signal is always solid on. I swapped the right headlight module with the left one. I also swapped the relays. It looks like the problem is a SAM or there is a short circuit between SAM and front left headlights.

160,000 miles on my '05 C320 when front right turn signal lamp would stay on even with car shut off and key removed.

Replaced the under hood drivers side fuse box, part number 209 545 14 01 from a salvage yard for $80. Be sure all numbers match, problem solved, no reprogramming needed.

Installation tip - before disconnecting battery, turn wiper on until vertical and quickly turn ignition off, otherwise wiper linkage will prevent removal of fuse box.

not a merc
faulty SAM. The sam controls all lights. no fuses and no relays. Direct connection to SAM. So if lamps stay on its 100% a faulty sam
