Ignition Woes - crank position sensor
My 2005 C230 was doing fine until it started running rough. It has previously collected oil in #3 coil well. When I got a#3 misfire I expected a quick clean out and back in the saddle. But it was clean 🤔. Plug looked a bit iffy so I put in a new plug and hoped for the best. Seemed to improve, but shortly after very poor starting hit it along with codes 335 & 336.
Curently it will start but with great difficulty. It will kick the codes on start. It idles just fine, with no code generated. Running power is poor.
It looks like a bad crank position sensor. Does this sound familiar to anyone or should I look elsewhere? Seems it is a bit tricky to change it, but not Soo bad. (Famous last words)

I can tell you this... the crankcase sensor is a nightmare to reach. I had to replace mine on my c320 because engine would crank and crank but WOULDN'T start. Once I cranked it, while pumping the gas, having someone spray starting fluid while I cranked...finally after about 20 minutes of trying...it started...idled rough for few seconds, then drove just fine and normal. I got it fixed as soon as I could because that was my only means of transportation to work. I don't know if it is in the same location, but mine is between back of engine and firewall. Very little clearance for your hand. Hopefully is just bad gas like you mentioned!!! Keep us informed.

I agree with Russell if those codes are showing misfire in cylinders, especially the one that was collecting oil I would replace the cool pack spark plug wire and spark plug on each cylinder that corresponds with the misfire codes you're getting.

cps will throw a a cps code! and while it is not easy, it is doable. i removed the MAF and body to get better access. and threw some foam pads over the engine so I could lie flat on it.
It is really just a matter of feel with your fingers. I replaced mine twice.. the first replacement was faulty! the second time around was easy really.
