![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I received my Climatronic unit from Steve. Thanks Steve BTW. I'm gonna install it tonight after I return from my brothers graduation. I was wondering, do I need to disconnect the battery before installing it? Does it make a difference? Thanks!

NOPE, I DID NOT DISCONNECT THE BATTERY EITHER. PLUS I INSTALLED A COUPLE OF THEM WITHOUT DISCONNECTING IT, BECAUSE I HAD TO TEST WHICH VERSION WOULD WORK WITH MY CAR...
MATTER OF FACT, I THINK I EVEN HAD THE KEY IN THE IGNITION SO I COULD SHIFT THE SHIFTER ALL THE WAY DOWN TO DRIVE (DIDNT WANT TO FIND WHERE THE SHIFTER LOCK RELEASE WAS)
NO PROBS WITH THE UNIT AND I HAVE HAD IT FOR MONTHS.
HOPE THIS HELPS.

i was just wondering. i tried the 09 85 unit like a year and a half ago. so now now im trying the 05 85 unit and seeing if maybe discontecting the battery would help. im hoping this one works.

the 09 unit did not work on my car. the 05 unit worked fine. weird. you probably remember all the discussion back then about the different versions working on some cars and not others...
i would difinately NOT recommend taking problems with a retofit climatronic to the dealer. if the dealer does a diagnostic thru stardiag or thru the climatronic unit itself, it will thow out a bunch of error messages because our non factory climatronic cars do not have the extra motors and carbon filters that a factory equipped car has, and will question you and hastle and blah blah blah.... you know the rest... hehe

cool thanks. i just finished the install and the 05 85 unit works great. im os glad now to finally have it. i bought the 09 85 unit back before my car had even been delivered and it didnt work so i sold it. i gave up on the whole idea until i asked steve about it and he suggested i try the 05 85 unit. i must say im finally pleased to have it in my car.

it cost me $210, i paid for shipping. $230 including shipping. for that model all functions work, except dual auto doesnt since my coupe doesnt have 2 blowers for air control. also i dont have tunnel mode anymore.
the other digital climate control is $180 but i've tried that one before and it didnt work on my coupe and i sold it to another coupe owner who bought it and it worked just fine for him.
it is all plug and play.

The analog system lets you set driver / passenger temp. I assume that fuctionality is still there?

in a C320 they have dual blowers. you can have a high setting set on one side of the car and a low blower setting on the passenger side. in the C-coupe i have one blower. so only one auto works. the other does nothing. i still have dual zone climate control, just not two blowers. different temps do blow depending on the settings.

I totally agree with you. We shouldn't have to retrofit this in either, it should come standard this way.
My C230 is my wifes, and I never drive it, but when I'm in the car it drives me nuts. I finally told her.. we're getting digital climate control and Comand.
She thinks I'm nuts!

believe me, it will make the car look more like it should inside imho. i didnt order my car with COAMAND like i initially wanted too. i regretted it everyday until i retrofitted it. and actually the cost to retrofit it is cheaper than if i had bought it from the factory and the COMAND is new. plus i had it replaced once under warranty since my last COMAND screen was going out.

'02 C230K Coupe
For an '02 C230k, I'm guessing an "05" version would be a better choice than an "09" version, right?
Too lazy to STFF at the moment, but is it just a matter of prying out the unit from the front, or does the entire trim need to be taken out in order to access it?

i would assume so. my car was built dec 17, 2002 and thats what im using in my car. though Steve, did say that there is no rhyme or reason to which climatronic works or doesnt, either your car accepts it or it doesnt
