New Springs

I've been searching the forums and getting some ideas for springs. Should I go for the H&R cupkit all out. Should I go for just the H&R springs. what kind of ride difference is there between the two. How about AMG springs, or will I need AMG shocks as well. I'd like to go with AMG springs if I can, but Ive read the shocks are quite expensive so I was wondering if I could go with the AMG springs, and run my current shocks. Plus will I need any spacers for the front. Some say yes, some say no! Thanks!

I have one word for you: Budget
Depending on what you are talking about as far a budget is concerned, will depend what you can/might be able to get.

If you are looking to get performance quality driving/handling experience out of your C class, then you should go for the AMG suspension. AMG suspenssion is a pure performance, tight, very strong and responsive. It is not soft and cushy like the one you have on your C coupe. Everytime we get a loaner car, my wife NOTICES the difference between the loaner (normal C class W203 chasis) vs the AMG suspension my car has.

If you wanted to get your car even lower than a normal AMG suspenssion, depending on what budget you are looking:

-Get lowering srpings only and keep your original shocks (Brabus or Kleeman or Elibach springs repectively --that was in order of quality from best to worse). This option WILL NOT give you the handling of an AMG suspenssion, but your car will look like a racing tiger, will have a very aggresive look and will be much lower than the stock AMG suspenssion. (this is the least expensive mod on suspenssion)

-Get a cup-kit, H&R has a good set up, then Kleeman, then Brabus, then Elibach (this is the "mid-range" mod on suspenssion)

-Get the coilovers: H&R are head to head with Bilkteins PSS-9. This set up has a manually configurable lowering range. This system will offer your the best lowering and handling (this set up is the most expensive)

Cupkits are struts and srpings put together, for example, the AMG suspenssion would fall under a cupkit set up. Coilovers differ only with cupkits that coilovers are adjustable, so you can change the height and tightness of the suspenssion itself (and you knew that!!.. I am just posting it for the sake of those who didn't know it all too well ).

Whatever you decide, say get the AMG suspenssion, you have to think about the costs of installation, alignment on your car, so if you get one suspenssion and later you decide to "upgrade" it again, then you will re-inccur all the costs of alignment and installation again... so is best to see what can you afford and that you are happy on getting and go for it.

Hope this helps...

Cheers

Budget...Budget....Budget....I agree 100%

And what is a good price for the CupKit with & without installation?

Also, be advised, that depending on what you chose, there are "pros" and "cons"... to each desicion.. the least expensive, may and I repeat may have a premature wear of your stock shocks; since you will be changing the geomerty of your suspenssion and what the shock was designed to handle... some people have ported the problems with their "bushings".. everything depending with the driving caracteristics you put in your car will be the final factors that will determine that. I've had a previous vehicle that I put only the lowering srpings as I wanted just the "look" and I drove the car until I gor rid of it (I had that car for 7 years!) and never had a problem with the suspenssion at all...

Hope this helps...

Cheers

hmm, i still think i want to go with the AMG springs, and then get the AMG shocks in a couple months. the AMG springs will be ok for now, you think. i already have AMG sway bars.

There is no "magic" number... what is "good" for you, maybe too expensive for someone else... therefor.. at least in my case.. I look at "how much" I am willing or can spend on a project.. that is regardless what other may/may not have spent on the same project...

An example, though related.. is on out last gathering... I met some new folks... one of them with a nice set of wheels on his car... the flooring part was that he had spent under a thousand bucks on the whole set!!.. and they looked to me as good at my 10k wheel set... .. not that I was doing this: .. however, that lets you see there is always range.. it all comes to what you want and what you can do...

Cheers!

Costs...

MR Anaheim_Drew:
Right on this thread we may have a good example of what is "acceptable" or not... (though I may be wrong here!! ... LOL)

Mr. CitronC230K_03 seems to be "willing" to spend twice the costs of having the suspension taken apart.. first to install the springs.. later to do the shocks and transfer the springs to the new shocks??? or any other possible combination of...

Mr. CitronC230K_03:
Correct me if I misunderstood you there... even if you are doing the work "yourself"... and you don't count your time and work... I thought the same way... until sometime ago, my mother in law saw me doing my front lawn in my house and then she said "that is the most expensive front lawn that I have ever seen in my life".. --that is after I spent like 8 hours once working on the lawn.. and I "started" with just "trimming".. then one thing carried to the other.. .soon time flew by and I had done wayyy more than "trimming"--.. that was of course if you added "my time" --labor-- x 8 hours... then I was freaked out myself!... haha...

Cheers!

yes wiedermann,
your car does look great. the AMG springs wont lower my car much, so i should be ok with the current shocks. from what ive been reading while STFF, it says that if i lower more than 1 - 1.5" than my shocks will be crushed. AMG springs wont lower my car this much so ill run the stock shocks for a while then.

CitronC230K_03: you need to take labor fee into account. If you wanna do the AMG spring with stock shock, then soon you will need to get the new shock. When you change to the new shock, you will need to pay another labor fee. So, I was told that using HR CupKit will save money.

Well, it's my 0.02 cents

Good Luck

some say AMG springs will crush my shocks, some say they wont. some say all 4 AMG springs will fit, some say only the front.

How much will a cup kit run me, and will it lower the car to much for my stock 17" wheels. i dont want my car lowered to much.

FYI...if i remember, there was a discussion about this last year and it was mentioned that EIBACH makes the brabus springs. CItron... check out the eibach pro kit. I haven't had mine installed still... it's sitting in the garage..... one day over the rainbow I guess it will get done.
You are like sunman.... you have a ton of OEM mods man.... it might be cool to just go with AMG suspension like breastroker was talking about. Maybe in a few years do a motor swap too .

ive been researching this stuff. im going to stick with the AMG setup. it may cost more, but i wanna stick with the OEM setup. just me. anyhow thanks for the ebay.de link. i saw the W203 AMG full setup for the sedan owners but never saw springs for a coupe until now. i will hold out to get the entire set once i find it. would anyone know the part numbers for the springs/shocks for the C32/C30 sportcoupes.

yeah ive been thinking about the cup kit. but wont it lower the car. i dont want a lowered look, i want better handling. im not getting rid of my 17" wheels i like them, and im afraid if the cup kit lowers my car my wheels may not look right.
