c240 or Jaguar X-type

Hi guys,
Iam 15 years old(16 next June) and my parents have given me a set price of a car i can get. With research i found that I could get a Mercedes C240 or a Jaguar X-type. Which one do you all think i should get. I really like the s500, but i dont want something that nice. has anyone had any problems with the C?
Thanks a Million
Wade

C320 Coupe
the c-class is a great car. i love my c320 coupe. if you're in that price range, i'd suggest you look at the c230 sport sedan - it's faster, sportier (something i'd assume a 16 yr old kid would like), and it's AMG styling and appointments are very attractive. and it's less than the c240 price wise! but even so, the c240 is a great car as well - very elegant, rich interior (wood appointments and other expensive touches), and if you're not too keen on performance or speed, then it's v6 engine should be sufficient for you.

compared with the jaguar x-type, there is no comparison. i test drove both. the x-type is not nearly as fun of a car to drive as the c-class, esp. with the new AMG suspension and wider tires on the '05 sport sedan models. the normal c240 gives a better ride in my opinion than the x-type as well. in addition, jaguar quality is very poor. although mercedes isn't the top when it comes to quality, it sure is more reliable and better built than any jaguar. the c-class is a much, much better looking car too. plus, jagur is owned by ford!

good luck.

2005 C230
I would go for the 05 C230k. It's a really fun car to drive and you're only 16 which will get you a lot of girls and attention. I just got mine about 3 weeks ago. My first car and my first benz. Besides the 05 comes with a redesigned interior and the amg body kit. Everyone I know wishes they had my car. The C240 is more luxurious but why would you want that at 16. Get the sportier 05 C230k and with the rest of your budget get some kick *** options!
Also, the only way to truly know what car to get is to test drive both. Get the car that would make you the happiest because in the end the person driving is you and no one else.

With the recent drop in price, the X is looking much better. Personally, the only X i'd get would be a 3.0 Sport, the 2.5 is a real dog. Before I bought my coupe I considered an X, similiarly equiped I was looking at $5K more for the X, about the price they dropped the X this year due to severe lack of sales...today it would have been a harder choice.

I know the X did not have dual climate control (something important to me).

BTW, I agree with the rest, go for an 05 C230, not a C240.

The build quality and interior fit and finish on the X is awful. Go for the C of your choice.

I am 15 too and I'll be 16 next may...I'd get the C240 over the X-type any day..the X-type is pretty much a Ford, and they don't look good at all. But, the C230 Kompressor Sport Sedan is cheaper, more powerful, and looks better than the C240, I'd get that instead.

I'm a twin, and me and my brother and probably going to share a car when we turn 16..my grandparents own a Mercedes/Volvo dealership, so hopefully we'll get the C230 sport sedan!!

But honestly people, how many of you have actually owned a Jag? As much as I ***** about the build quality of mine, I would re-buy it in a hearbeat...as the commercials say, something happens when you can say "Thats my Jag" and its 100% true. Don't get me wrong, i've loved all my Benz'es, but if I had to pick one car of mine to rebuy, it would be a tough choice, but the Jag would be in contention...just something about a Jag...mmm.

Seriously, are you serious?

I get the impression that the majority of people on this board are pretty young to begin with. And many of them have cars thanks to Mommy and Daddy.

at age sixteen I could not afford a mercedes and my parents made me work for the car that I got. When I turned seventeen that is when I got my car and it was a used pathfinder that my dad drove for two years previous to me. I payed 14 thousand to him over the course of the next three years that I drove that car. Some of the kids to day get things handed to them and never understand the value of a dollar. That is a problem. Nice things should be earned not handed to you. Lets not even talk about the car. A sixteen year old kid could not even afford the insurence on a mercedes? What would it be for kid that age $4000.00 for me at 27 it is 2200.00 a year. Don't get me wrong if your parents have the money and are willing good for you that is awsome, just appreciate it and thank them every day. You should be the envy of all your friends because you will have the best ride out of all of them. GOOD LUCK!!!

So, whats your point? Should they ask for a busted civic because their parents have money? Trust me, there are plenty of kids out there with RR and Bently's, an MB isn't that big of a deal...someone is always richer then you, get over it...don't blame him for his parents money.

doesnt matter really IMO what kind of car you drive when your young. i think though you should go for a C230 SS over the x-type or the C240.

I own both a Jaguar X-Type and a 2004 C-240.

First of all, the people talking sh_t about the X-Type's interior just plain don't know what they're talking about. The X-Type is miles ahead of the C-Class for interior quality and comfort. The leather and wood quality in Jaguar is amazing.

The X-type is WAAAYYY more fun to drive than the C-Class. Obviously the C-240 at 168 hp is way under my Jag's 231 hp.

Until the latest Nano paint came out from Mercedes, there was no one who could match Jag's paint and finish. But Mercedes is getting close.

Sure, I understand that this is a Mercedes board and the people here are going to favor Mercedes. That's fine.

But, those calling the X-type a Ford are being stupid. It's a wonderful car and its all-wheel drive handles great. Jaguar is a very sophiscated car.

Now, after I've said all that... I think the OP, at his age, fits the image of the C-230 Sport Sedan more than the X-Type.

why are people recomending him the the 230k? Does he say he wants that? He wants luxury which is why he even looks at the Jag in the first place. C240(although slow as hell) is more luxurious.the x type maybe a bit more.

i don't think he ever said he wanted luxury, he said he had a price range and he wanted something nice. therefore, most people recommended the c230 ss over the c240 that he suggested because it's more of what a 16 year old would most likely be ineterested in - faster than the c240 and sportier.

ok then, get the C230WZ with wood trim option. then you have the sporty engines, wheels, brakes, suspension, look, with the wood trim you get in the C240. now lets call it a day.

First of all, the people talking sh_t about the X-Type's interior just plain don't know what they're talking about. The X-Type is miles ahead of the C-Class for interior quality and comfort. The leather and wood quality in Jaguar is amazing.

i guess it's personal preference. i found the x-type to be quite unappealing
on the inside - the center console irks me and their sound system was weak. the wood was nice, yes, i liked it on the steering wheel, but i wasn't looking for a wood rich interior. i also find the exterior less appealing than the c-class....the C class is such a good looking, flowing car, the lines are perfect. the x-type is oddly shaped in my eyes, and i don't like the rear.

The X-type is WAAAYYY more fun to drive than the C-Class. Obviously the C-240 at 168 hp is way under my Jag's 231 hp.

obviously the jaguar is going to be more powerful with 227hp 3.0 liter six cylinder engine. even the 2.5 produces 192hp. the c240 is a very weak car with only 168hp out of it's 2.6 liter six. hence, why most suggested the c230 - it's supercharged 4 puts out 189hp, making it faster in actual numbers and feel. although still less than the x-type, the x weighs A LOT more than the c-class - the 2.5 is 3400lbs(manual)/3500(auto) and the 3.0 is 3500(manual)/3600(auto). that is so heavy - which probably accounts for why i was unimpressed with it's handling.

Until the latest Nano paint came out from Mercedes, there was no one who could match Jag's paint and finish. But Mercedes is getting close.

nanopaint is now on the '05 c-class.

But, those calling the X-type a Ford are being stupid. It's a wonderful car and its all-wheel drive handles great. Jaguar is a very sophiscated car.

Jaguar's are definitely good cars. i'd buy one over several other cars on the road today. but you can't escape the fact that Ford owns and builds Jaguars, which essentially makes jags fords. jaguar quality is also worse than mercedes.

yes these boards are going to be biased, but that's what you'll get anywhere. if he goes to jaguar boards, i bet they're saying get the "x-type get the x-type". it's for him to weigh the reasons and advice we give in support of the cars we choose, in this case, i'm choosing the c230k (or c240)over the x type.
