Post Coupe door panel removal

After searching so many times for this I putted hands to works.

(sorry fot the bad quality, taked from a nokia 6600)

1-pull out the srs badge and remove the star screw

2-under the door arm rest there is a cover, popit off and remove the screw
(drop the window)

3-remove the c-shaped plastic piece by the door latch

4-slide of tweeter grill cover

5-pull the panel to pop the push pins all around the cover (sides and down, use a big screwdriver to make a lever, or use a specif tool)

6-lift the panel from the top near the window all the way

7-remove the cable from the pull handler

8-remove the electric window/seats switch from the module

and thats all folks

DEFINITELY use specific tools... I would recommend that people not use metal tools when doing any "prying" (the badges or the door panel or trim pieces). It's too likely that a scratch can be made.

Plastic wedges are the best tools for that, they are of a soft yet strong plastic.

I used an old credit card to remove my badges. They're very simple to remove, and don't require much force.

I agree about the panels; I'd get a door panel removal tool - they're cheap, and much cheaper than fixing an "oops, sh*t!" slip of the hand.

I agree with the others, specific tools are the best for these kind of jobs. Thanks for sharing the pictures..

Either way, it was a very valid bump because it made it easier for me to add this to the D.I.Y. / AFTERMARKET MODS STICKY.

As always, the forum comes through.

I've taken the above, made into a word doc, printed as a pdf, and uploaded to the site that you can download and print w/ pics.
Thanks gaiex !
New rear speaker panels, to be installed.

EDIT-Speaker grill installed, no more hole from the seatbelt.
Part was $15. I've heard people say they paid $250 or more for this job?
wow. It was not hard.

I added some info, like T screw sizes, brightened up the pics, and
here it is for your DIY'ing pleasure.
Melting the plastic with a butter knife was the funnest part.
Now that I've done it once, it wouldn't take more than 10 minutes to remove and reinstall the panel.

Thanks again to Gaiex!

Why do you guys need specific tools? All you need are the 2 torx drivers. For step 5, fingers will easily do the trick.

I made this DIY 3 years ago when I was installing my 2ways focal 16cm at front and 3ways 13cm at back door.
3 years passed and I yet didn't fixed the crossovers well!

This week I will install a OEM Bose sub and a magnat amp to push my focals and the sub, since the comand sound is crap (audio 10cd was much much better)

I do my own oil changes now. Since I got oil on sale at Kragen,
3.50 + 2.50 a quart rebate, it only cost me less than $20.
Nice....

our car requires 7 us quarts according to the owner's manual. I guess you can go 6.5 quarts. If you put 6 (what I've tried) the oil check tool tells you to add 1 quart.

ahh thx, coz that's what the guy told me, he said i need half a bottle more, and i think in my mind that too much oil won't do the car any good since my is only 2.3L

i think i will add half a bottle more now

Vilkomen. To. Hell. (I kid, I kid).

First, pull off the plastic runner on the bottom of the front door. This is the plastic cover that is right after the Mercedes-Benz text on the bottom of the door jamb. This will help you because that covers part of the back panel.

Next, pull off the SRS badge and unscrew the torx screw behind it (same as the front SRS badge size, I think). Then pull up the bottom rear seat (there's a small loop on the side of the seat, pull it and the seat rotates up). The bolster that makes up the portion between the fold-down back and the side panel is secured with a small nut on the bottom which was revealed when you pulled up the bench seat. Undo the nut and then you should be able to pull the bolster off.

At this point, it will probably make your life easier to remove the side of the bench seat you're currently working on. To do this, first pull up the seat itself, then pull back the black covering underneath. The straps attach to two nuts underneath the black covering, so remove them. Then, use a flathead to pop off the plastic covers on the bottom of the seat, near the floor. Undo the two nuts behind them, then remove the seat.

OK. Now, you have to start pulling outward on the panel, starting from the front side and bottoms of the panel. This portion uses the same plastic clips as the front doors, so they pop out the same. Once you feel the sides and bottoms are reasonably free (sorry, I forget the number of pop-clips on this panel), start pulling up. The hardest part will be the part that clips into the front of the window; it's very stubborn. There are three metal clips for that top portion; don't lose them.

A word of warning. The back panels use thick black plastic hooks behind the upholstery sections of the panel. They're slotted into square holes in the body of the car. Make sure to pull up before you pull out, else you will break them. I broke one side's hook; it's a little looser than the other side, but not in a really bad way. It would behoove you, though, not to

Let me know if you need some pics or something like that.

EDIT: You know, I don't remember if I had taken out the seat backs before I took out the side panels. Just looking at it, with wrangling, it should come out if you work around the seat back. If you need to take out the seat backs, that's another set of steps. The thing is, both sides need to come out for one side to come out, so hopefully there won't be a need for that.

any pics or guides would be superb... i am looking to do something similar to what you did with your interior... but the people making the interior are hesitating with the panels because of the airbags. right now they don't want to do the panels because of liability issues... so i'm trying to convince them to at least make them and let me put them in if i can take off the panels myself.

if you could post any or all of the photos you took of your install i will be eternally indebt... or even better a write up/DIY!

i love your interior and hope i can upgrade from my cloth too! different color scheme of course.

thanks

Unfortunately, like all my projects, I was thinking more about getting the project done rather than taking pictures, which I really should have in retrospect. However, we can get away with properly annotated external pictures, and that's what I'll do on Sunday.

In the meantime, if they're just looking for a sample panel to see what they can do, give them the front passenger door. It's much easier to pull out and put in, and it is 99% the same idea in terms of removing the upholstered panel from the door and reattaching it, and the panel has the airbag mount behind it just like the rear panel. If you need to carry passengers, all they have to do is pull the little hook and they can still open the door (which I had my passengers do for a week or so ). The only thing you should worry about is taping the tweeter and the window control to the door so that they don't get caught in the door jamb.
