Working on that now. Could be I have a defective sensor or motor but I don't think so. I installed another overhead board from a salvage CL and it works perfectly but now the keyless go and the rain sensors do not work. Back to the old board. Why Mercedes doesn't make them interchangeable is maddening.
That doesn't work for me. I do have an observation and an experiment to relay....I got another upper control panel for another CL500 and swapped it out. The sunroof now works perfectly, but,
now the rain sensor and keyless go no longer work. The only error code with the OEM panel was the anti-pinch limit has been reached but the sunroof is free and easy to open/close, no tract issues etc.
I now know the sunroof tract and motor is functioning with the swapped UPC. My issue might be software related or UPC failure in the sensor no longer being read correctly. The sensors probably are not
defective as it works with another panel. I will have to break down and get a Star system hooked up to fix it so it might stay closed all summer. The more I mess with it, the more other issues come up.
I am glad MB does not have anything to do with the space program, our boys would be stuck up there in space with a broken plastic handle and a defective SAM.

If a cabin light (such as the dome) is on, you can actually see the light "dim" for a second while holding the button. Basically the car will try to move the sunroof (drawing juice away from the cabin light), realize it can't, then stop trying (the light then brightens again). At that point it has "learned" where the end of the travel is.
This actually applies to the window as well. Open or close the window all the way, let go, then hold "open" or "close" for 2 seconds. Then move the window to the opposite end of travel and repeat.

The limit switches need to be reset. VW does it by rolling windows all the way down at once w/ master switch, then back up.
I suspect MBZ has a similar procedure involving cycling the sunroof or windows to ensure they don’t self destruct themselves when closing.
