Cool How often for an oil change for the C240?

Does anyone know when you are suppose to get an oil change with the 2002 Mercedes C240?

I thought it is suppose to be every 3,000 miles but this one guy at Mercedes says you only get it every 10,000 miles when you get your engine serviced. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

Thanks!

There have been a lot of posts about this, so you might want to do a search. Lots of different opinions.

As for myself, I am going by my car's computer which has the first scheduled change somewhere between 10k and 12k.

Just waiting on Mark L's response to this one...

Personally, I would just go with the car's diagnostic system, but depends on how **** you are about oil changes.

Man, do I have a "rep" w/ this topic too ? I'm at 7,300 now and thinking about how long ahead of time I'll need to set up an appt! Plus, I want to try to get an "E" loaner if I can. I'm still checking my level w/ the computer every couple weeks and it still says "OK". I hope it's right.

Hey, Tommy, has your oil level dropped since the initial time when you had to add? The only thing I remember saying on this topic is that I felt M-B wouldn't sacrifice their long-term reliability reputation w/ lengthened oil change intervals.

I was under the impression that the use of Mobil 1 synthetic extends the oil change interval. The syntheic holds up longer; also, since the sump holds nearly 8 quarts keeps it from getting as contaminated as quickly.

The owners manual says to change the oil once a year or when the FSS tells you to (15000km in Canada), whichever comes first.

If you go by that then you will be fine.

I'm already **** about my cars paint. I don't have the time or energy to be **** retentive about the oil too.

Fuzzo, actually I've never had a service visit yet, so I'm not sure what EuroMotors normally provides. I had read about some other board members getting E-Class's when they go for service at other dealers. I'm going to try to call several weeks before I need to take it for the A service to be sure I get a good loaner.

I have already had the Service A....Service B scheduled in about 3300 miles...this is all in less than one year of having the car. I put alot of miles on my cars. So far, I am going with the computer/FSS system. I usually check the oil level via the computer and it says it is okay. Havent had a problems yet, so I will continue to go with the computer.

BT, I agree w/ you completely. In my message, I was referring indirectly to some people who had said (in other posts) that M-B "saves money" by lengthening its oil change intervals since they are provided as part of the "free" maintenance. What I was saying is that I disagreed with that, that I don't believe M-B would shortchange the oil changes to save a few bucks and then have a lot of cars w/ damaged engines which would then hurt their reputation.

Our ML had it's first oil change at 12000, and the second at about 23000. The third one is coming up - we are at 34,000. So 11000 or 12000 miles between changes.

So far, no trouble. I agree with MarkL that MB would not allow such long oil changes if they didn't think it was safe. And the "rest of the world" doesn't get the "free maintenance" we get in the U.S. They still get the FSS and the longer oil changes.

However my C32 look like it might not quite make it to 10000 before its A service - maybe I drive it differently!

A lot of the C32 crowd are pretty A-R (****-retentive) and they change their oil like every time they get gas, just to be safe.
:p
It's also a good idea to change out your tire air every few months or else it'll get stale.
(Sorry - couldn't help myself!)

Hey, at least he searched!

Mobil 1 0W-40 Fully Synthetic Euro Car Formula - look for "Meets MB Specs 229.5" on the bottle.

You must be kiddin' right?
Mobil1 0w-40 with fleece filter can easily go double that interval. That smell is telling you the additives in the oil are doing its job. Its normal.

In USA recommendation is every 13,000 miles with fleece filter. In ROW it is 15,000Km with fleece filter & 229.5 oil.

Oil smell or look is not indicative of anything.

13,000 miles.

I went with the 13,000 or once a year recommendation until the warranty was up. I performed the last 2 myself at 7,000 still using the recommended oil. I run synthetic Mobile in all my vehicles and I feel that 5 to 7K is a plenty.

I'm sorry, I just don't understand why people choose to waste their money like this. Please search around, other members have sent their oil for analysis after the full 13k interval and the results showed that they changed it at the right time. In a vehicle calling for a 7k interval then following that makes sense, even with Mobile 1 synthetic. One of the reasons MB's take so much oil is to allow for such a large change interval.
