What happened to the coin holder on the '05?

Kind of inconvenient. No coin holder or am I missing something.

A shiny metal ashtray in the dash of no use and no coin holder.

I HAVE the coin holder...

Could this be a market specific feature?

In my car, where you have that, I have a cup holder that swings out.

If I take out the ashtray all I have is a hole there and the change would be all over the place. HHMM ? Maybe my car is missing some parts ???

My mistake, I was thinking of the Porsche. I went and checked and you're right. Taking out the ashtray I could put coins in there but I think it would make a racket all the loose change jumping in there.

I guess I could cut out a piece of cloth, leather, or rubber, and place it in the bottom so it wouldn't do that.

I don't find the coin holder useful as it is not sized for the coins that we have (the holes are too big). As a result, the coins rattle a lot in the holder and I find this very irritating.

We also don't use coins very much anymore in the car nowadays as most carparks have gone electronic with charges deducted automatically from cash cards which we are required to have for electronic road pricing.

Can't copy the link to the specific page, but here's the instruction to get to the page on the Interactive Owner's Manual.

http://www.mercedes-benz.de/

Click on Pkw, Betriebsanleitungen interaktive, and then select one of the C-Klasse models. You can select English from the tool bar on top.

The page is under "In depth" - "Practical Advice" - "Opening/closing in an emergency" - page 6

Cheers!

Limo is correct...

At the next window, right on top...

There is "Start", "English"...

Select "English".

This is why your manual has it and we don't. The on-line manual says right at the beginning :

The following online version of the Owner's Manual in both language versions only applies to C-Class vehicle models which are intended for the German market and which therefore comply with German regulations.

Maybe the ones in Singapore are the same as in Germany.

There's no cover over the cup holder in the '05 interior. There is a cover over the ashtray, which is forward of the shifter. The cup holder is exposed and has no cover, and it is to the rear of the shifter.

We still have parking meters, toll bridges etc.

Smoking in cars is really passé no?

I removed the dash ashtray and put it away with the other bits of cars that I don't use.

I found some felt with a peel off sticky backing and I fashioned a bottom piece and 4 parts for the sides. Stuck them on and voilà, the coins may tinkle a bit if they touch but no noises against the sides and bottom where the major annoyance would be.

Exactly what I said. That would be the best mod and it's on its way as soon as I find the felt, rubber, leather, whatever, to cut out and stick.

Did you find this felt at a major store like KMart, WalMart, Pep Boys or somthing like that ?

I found the felt at a fabric store, it sells in squares for a couple of $.

I had some velcro strips around which had a sticky back. I used the rough face strip on the bottom and the felt piece sticks to it, and the smooth (felt like) strip glued to the sides. It's all black and blends in nice.

I have done this before when I lined the inside of my Miata ash try. It lasts a couple of years and than needs to be replaced.
