I wondered about that. It seems to me that the clear lens detatches from the main headlamp assembly, so why not just replace that part only. Probably pretty cheap, too - compared to buying the whole housing.

im sure you would need the whole new assembly for it to look like that, not just the cover. im sure the 2002 unit does not look like that inside

Well we are looking at two totally different systems right here. The one is the foggy cover looks like a reflector based system and the clear cover looks like a projector based system.

I am thinking the foggy lens might actually help spread out the beam and by replacing it with a clear lens might ruin your beam pattern.

I've never seen a projector system with a foggy lens so I would assume that the current system is not a projector system.

You can't simply replace the lens on your current headlamp. The markings on your current lenses are for proper light dispersion. You cannot simply replace them. Projector lamps utilise the projectors (with a complex reflector inside) to control the output, hence the fluted markings are not required.

In order to get these headlamps, you'll have to purchase the entire headlamp assembly, which will no doubt be quite expensive.

These lamps are MY2003 headlamps and ALL MY2003 C-classes will have them, halogens or Bi-Xenons. for a perfect example, stop by your MB dealer and have a look at the '02 ML and you will see what I mean.

C230 Sport Coup + 2006 W164 ML350 + 99 Ford Escort (What the heck, it gets 38 mpg!)
I saw an SL500, and happily noted the similarity in styling to the c coupe, but with Xenon's.
Still it was a one piece plastic cover just like the C- coupe, but clear with Xenon's in it.
I wonder if this could be a possible retrofit?

Question Bi-Xenon Code

Hi Everyone,

Just talking to my local dealer, and asking them when they will be receiving Cs with the Bi-Xenon/Clear Housing option, and they don't seem to know what I'm talking about. I think it would help if I knew the code for it? Does anyone know?

BTW, in Canada we do not use "C4", so that will not help.

Thanks,

Tim

Thanks, DTS!

Is this the same code as the sedan? Is this the same code that is used in North America?

Thanks again,

Tim

Yes, the option code for the bi-xenons for the sedan is 614 as well. I'm afraid I don't know if these are the same option codes used in US.

When I picked up my car this past Saturday I was told November-ish before they'll be arriving.

I went for the aftermarket mount H7 lights. If the assemblies are reasonably priced, I'll sell the H7's on ebay and go for the MB OEM.

Yes, another xenon post, but this one is different!

OK, here's my question.
Obviously the new 2003 Bi-xenon lights have a lighting assembly that focus's the light, so the beem is very accuratly pointed. The same idea is used on BMW's, Audi's...ect. But I noticed on my friends Acura CL, that the xenon lights look no different than regular lights. Just a bulb in a regular reflector housing.
If there is no special lighting assembly on the CL, wouldn't that give you a poor lighting spread? And inturn, how is the CL set up any different from placing a xenon bulb in a 2002 C230 Headlight???? As far as I can tell, the CL xenon lights work quite well, but do blind traffic somewhat, hehe.

Thoughts??

well if you look at the previous xenon models you would see that it too has just the regular setup with reflectors... the new bi xenons are a newer look. to be honest i'm not sure what the change was made for.... but i like the first generation xenons better...

You can definitely have HID w/o projectors...but projectors just make it a lot more focused. As long as the housing is made specifically for HIDs, the light pattern should be fine. Putting aftermarket HID kits in a regular headlight housing will give you pretty bad spread patterns. This happened in my SLK when I added an HID kit. It was definitely brighter, but the pattern was pretty bad.

It is possible that the CL uses a free-form reflector. This would cause the light to be more focused. I don't know if our coupes have that - but will see soon enough. The HID's are going in this weekend.

My experience with the 98 M3 was that putting HIDs into the regular US Spec housings made nothing but bright blob output. Everyone in front freaked and flashed. Switching to the Euro housings (projector with cutoff) fixed all grief and made the light functional.

Now then, I did notice that the coupe with the halogens had a decent looking cutoff. That is to say, shooting regular lamps on a flat surface clearly shows cutoff. Whereas the Bimmer didn't have that defined line.

Cross all appendages! Here goes nothing.

I can't decide if I love it or hate it. I'll wait until I see them on the road.

Those fog lenses look different too.

How much will the Bi-Xenon cost for the current owner? I heard the package is only around $1000.
At the mean time, here is the HID kit in my C230K compare to my E46 325i with OEM Xenon.

The option package is cheaper than they will be as parts. Usually 16-1800.

But, Steve (on the "other" good mb board) can get 'em much cheaper in Europe. See SLKboy's thread for details (but Steve doesn't have ccoupe bis yet).

Unhappy Bi-Xenon installed...but

I got my bi-xenon headlights from Steve in the Netherlands yesterday, (took 7 days), and installed them. Although, I manually leveled the right side, but the left side isn't budging. Help anyone? Btw, they look so bad ***.

hummm - sounds familiar - I got mine from Steve as well...the passenger side on mine gave me probs...I took it out again and tried to fix the manual adjustment, but it didn't work...I ended up adjusting it- I had to aim it lower- by putting washers under the top bolt. You can do this with the headlight assy intact....just loosen 2 of the 3 bolts (the 3rd is unreachable and unnecessary becuz the lite assy is still adjustable with this bolt tightened).

I put in washers under the top bolt too and it got it a little lower, but I guess i'm gonna have to put more lol. Now I got a bigger problem as the dealerships in southern California says its illegal to set my computer to Xenon present. Does anyone know a dealership in the Orange county, LA, or san diego area that'll set the computer?
