Tar/Asphalt on my car
Tried to clean it the Meguiar's quick detailer and it did a good job since the tar was still wet. Also made some scratches and stone chips on the front and on the side.
Just venting out.....
On my way home from office, a truck passing me at high speed dropping road material all over and sprayed all kinds of $#$%# on my car. I could not pull over because of the traffic and after reaching home I noticed that all of the front and the right side of my car was sprayed with black dots.

Passed one of those highway maintenance trucks spraying white lines on the road one Spring afternoon in St. Louis ('79-ish). A high pressure line splits on the paint system, spraying sideways, all over my blue Honda and the car in front. Thankfully my windows were closed.
Unfortunately, the fellow in front was driving a BLACK BMW 320i convertible. The top was up (so it was trashed) but the windows were down, spraying white paint all over the black leather interior and the driver, wearing a dark gray 3-piece suit. Boy was he upset...
The solvent in the paint ate right through the finish on my car. The county maintenance dept paid for the repaint to my car just fine. I just wonder what the tab was for the poor soul in the Bimmer...
Sorry this post is no help. Your story reminded me of mine and I couldn't resist sharing. Bug and tar spray does take off the tar well. Plain kerosene works, too. Wash well after.

If you got tar on your car, use "Bug and Tar remover"
You can get it at any auto parts store for cheap.
It takes all that stuff off (including rub marks).
MAKE SURE to polish and wax the section where you used the Bug/Tar remover as it also removes the wax on the car.
Don't use a Detailer.
Find Goo-be Gone, OR believe it or not, in a pinch, WD-40 works well as claimed by a friend of mine with a Porsche, the Stoner Product mentioned should be good - they make good products.
After the goo is off, get some 3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound (they have varying degrees of roughness) - get the gentle one- put that one the chips and other spots to clean. It may get some of the scratches out. After the compound, on areas that are OK, polish up a bit with your wax product.
Get your MB touch up paint and a Langka Touch up kit.

You can't mess up your car or make it worse so it doesn't hurt to try. The new waterbased paint on MB is SOOOOO... thin it's hard to work with. The best I can do with the langka is smooth out the blob and make it much less noticeable. Think of the Langka as a liquid sandpaper that only affects the fresh (30-45 min) touch up paint. Cured paint is left alone.
