As an alternative to the full exhaust system, and the potential problems it can cause (6cyl vs. 4cyl), then the "LOOK" option seems best.
That's been a suggested idea that's been kicked around by a few of us. I was even willing to do that a while back, and was looking for a set of tips to buy directly. Turns out the C32 AMG tips are not sold separately, so yes, that would be your only alternative. Cut them off and weld them on to your existing set-up. Careful though, when you have them cut off, that the cut is a close as possible, if not at the very seam to which they are attached to the muffler. That will leave enough play in the piping to re-weld them at the proper length from your muffler to however far you want them to stick out from your rear bumper. Also, be aware that there are various types of C230/C320 muffler combinations (01-03 sport muffler, two small downward bent pipes, & 04-05 sport muffler). The C32 AMG tips are not just plug & play into existing MB mufflers. Having said that, there are still good muffler / weld shops that can do a clean professional job, to achieve the look you want. Remember there will be cutting / rolling of your rear bumper valence required to ensure the tips stick out nice & straight.

Yeah, mine's the two small pipes bent downward setup. I'll talk with the muffler shop tomorrow to see if they think they can cut the existing pipes, weld the AMG tips on and make it look good.

maybe you can check AMG manufactur listing. I remember seeing a large single oval AMG exhaust for the regular C class. It was used on the cars in Europe that has the AMG Evolution sport pkg.

it being supercharged (forced induction), wouldn't a bigger diameter piping for the exhaust be better for HP gain?

AMG exhaust installed... Finally...

I finally got around to finish the AMG exhause that was sitting in my garage for a very long time. I removed the entire piece with CAT first. Then cut the exhaust with a metal blade on my saw. The AMG exhaust pipe is slightly larger than the stock c320 exhaust so it slips on to the stock pipe perfectly. I use a circular clamp then and tightened with a Impact wrench. Snug fit. I want to get it welded tomorrow at a friends shop though for a perm. fit. The bumper has to be trimmed but it is very very little and not really noticible. I will get it changed to a AMG bumper when I get one for the right price.

I also forgot to mention the sound is very pleasant. I did not want it loud but when you hit the gas, you can tell it's there.

I have the CAT installed from factory. I did not swap the AMG Cat. I have it in my garage but I will get to it later on.

you're not getting any fault signals from the after cat CO sensor?

They have a different cat? I thought they are the same stuff. Unless you mean the heavy AMG resonator.

I dunno about tone, but from what I was told by the exhaust shop when I took an AMG exhaust from a C32 sedan in to be installed on my C230 sedan, the exhaust was made to work with a V6 engine and will ruin the 4 cylinder engine on our cars due to backflow or something technical that I am not aware of. This was confirmed by forum members who are much more tech savy than myself. Otherwise, the only fitment problem should be that the pipe going to your current exhaust is a bit smaller than AMG, so some modification would have to be done, and your bumper cutout is likely not suitable to fit the AMG dual tips, so that would have to be cut or changed to AMG rear bumper. I opted not to have it done after figuring out the negative long term effects it would have on my engine. Hope that helps in making your decision.

Oops, I screwed up. I meant the resonator. That is the part that I have not played with yet. It's in my garage. Cat is the same still. THe c32 exhaust is NOT recommended for the 230k engine. You will probably lose power because the pipe is larger diameter. backflow pressure will reduce

just leave the resonator off...that thing is heavy and useless. I have mine in the garage if anyone wants it. LOL

btw, post some pictures, Sunman!...

Sunman,
can you please post pics of the juncture where the two pipes meet (stock diameter vs. AMG diameter). Doing the same thing on my wife's C320 Sedan. Interested in pre-weld and post-weld pictures. Thanks !

still waiting for my AMG C32 Coupé exhaust to be located/shipped from Germany. That one should be a straight fit/replacement to my stock C320 Coupé.

You threw me off for a minute there, when you said you had the AMG cat waiting to be installed. I figured you had actually gotten the "entire" system coming off the engine headers and did some additional engine modifications to get AMG airflow going through and out the exhaust.

The resonator I would leave off. I agree with FrankW on that one. Either way let us know what you decide to do, and post some end-of-project pics. Thanks !

Carlos

That's a No-No.

Search for my 537 posts on AMG exhausts, and which ones are compatible with M111, M271, and M112 engines (based on length [sedan vs coupé], diameter, and airflow). Not much to choose from, and when you do find one, not easy to get.

The C32 AMG exhaust on US-spec AMG C32's will work on M112 V6 3.2L engines (C320) and that's about it.

Hi Saprissa a.k.a Carlos,

Just wanted to reiterate the statement above. Does the exclusion include the C240?

Thanks!

Carlos,

I will post pics later. The old pipe slips inside the amg pipe snug. It can be welded eaisly then. Use MIG welding. Go to a reputable shop. The guy that welded mine was a total idiot. I don't think he knew how to weld even! As soon as I saw the weld, I made him stop and did it myself. The bumper requies a very slight trim. I am not sure if the exhast made any difference but it sure feels like it.

I'm not too familiar with the exhaust diameter on the C240, but if it is the same as on the C320, then I would venture to say that it will work.
I would have an exhaust tech or muffler shop confirm first though.

Thanks Dr. Sunman !
Here in San Diego, there a very respected Muffler Shop recommended by AUTOWERKS. I will inquire about MIG welding, and make sure it's even.

I've heard mixed reviews on whether or not an AMG rear exhaust system increases power, but I figure since it's only a Cat-back system, there is definitely an improved air flow, and any back-flow problems should be easily corrected with an improved air box or K&N filter.

2002 C320 (full AMG styling) - Brilliant Silver / Ash Leather (Orion Grey)
Fitting AMG exhaust with standard bumper on C320

Want to upgrade the exhaust on my 2002 C320 Sedan to the AMG back box / rear section.

I've got the Elegance model with the standard bumpers (i.e. not Sport or AMG). Anyone have ideas on whether the exhaust fits without any problems?

I searched the forum and found that Sunman had to trim his bumper a bit to get a better fit.

Will I definitely have to do some work trimming or cutting the bumper. I really don't want to have to trim the rear bumper, anyone else had any experience of doing this mod?
