I can't believe how much time you spent on isolating the rattle, squeaks and noises in a C class. I knew the 00-04 C Class has some quality issues with the rattles and squeaks. It would drive me nuts if I had one, that I would probably traded in faster than the SL500 would go in 60 sec.

W203 WAGON.....
Does anyone know how to tighten the rear trunk hatch on a wagon?
Any bump, crack, or pebble on the road results in a rattle from the hatch so loud that people I'm talking to on the phone can hear it.

Hi Guys n Gals,
I have a speedometer which sounds like childs toy making a sparking noise, you know that plastic flick flick issue. I have a RHD made in South Africa C - Class W203. Does the pressing down on the center console fix help? Also my fusebox cover rattles irrritatingly. Someone help. It is driving me insane. Plus no one else including Merc's deaf mechanics can here it!

I have two rattles:
1. One is from the speedometer. The cardboard fix did not work. It sounds like a plastic ticking or sparking noise when I am on a rough road or going over a speedbump.
2. The second noise is a a very faint, sounds electric, that comes from the fusebox. It is the fusebox cover. I know this as I placed my finger on it while driving and it stopped.
The noise that irritates me is 1. I solved the fusebox problem by pulling the cover out slightly.
Thanks guys.

Hi Shay, yeah that little irritating sound from the speedometer drives me crazy. In my case if I put my thumb against the left corner it stops. Having now found out where it is coming from I'll get the mechanic (as I dont have the tool) to take my speedo out and wrap some felt around it, that should cure my issue!!

3. This one must have to do with the new slotted Zimmerman rotors I had installed in the rear. Every time I brake there is a slight sound similar to having a playing card taped to your bike frame to hit the tire spokes. I'm thinking the rear pads are made for these rotors. Anyone else with this experience?

Ha-ha!! I just read this thread and laughed my *** off!! I have ALWAYS been incredibly OCD about rattles, clinks, noises, ANY noise at ALL!. I'm relieved to see that I'm not the only one like this, haha! So many of my friends could have a bucket of bottles clinking in their back seat and it would even phase them..
DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME. When I bought my 05' C230 SS, the MT Shifter would sound this annoying rattle when slightly cold and when the car would go above 2500RPM. It... Drove... Me.... CRAZY!!!
When parked, I'd remove the entire shift knob/panel to try to find the source of the rattle, try this and that, but I could never find it, because the car wasn't moving, and a stand-still revving wouldn't replicate the sound. So... One day while driving, it was rattling hard, and I said screw it.. I removed the entire panel... shifter.. knob... everything while driving on the highway. (Again, not recommended) To my surprise, once the shifter was removed, the rattle persisted. Now I knew it wasn't the shifter, but something underneath it! I poked my hand around, and to my surprise, once I put my finger on the (lower left) bolt/washer, the sound STOPPED! I immediately rushed to the nearest AutoZone to use one of their loaner socket sets, tightened all bolts up real good, and FINALLY the rattle was silenced. I was at war with this rattle for almost 3 weeks!
I came... I saw... I conquered.
In the image below, it's the two silver bolts below the shifter. The left one was the culprit, but I tightened them all just in case. Theres one in front of the shifter too, making it a total of 3 bolts to cause rattle insanity. Hope this at least helps someone... I know, I have issues..
