*Has your car ever left you STRANDED*?

To the point where you had to call roadside assistance to come pick up your car?

Please vote Yes or no.

btw only vote if you owned your car for atleast 6 months.

Had stock Conti's on when I ran right into the edge of a snowstorm. Car stopped.. err.. slipped dead in its tracks. Had to call friends to bail me out, but luckily I was at the edge of the storm and it passed quickly.

That's not a reliability problem. That's an act of god.

My car has not ever left me stranded. My Honda Accord did. So did my old Jeep rather recently. Electrical gremlins in the coil mounting block.

like 12 miles per hour then it will slow down to about 3 or 4 then jump back up to 12 and so on. one time it happened to me on the highway. that was scary, i was doin like 75 then it went down to about 20, then the car started acting normal. its like my car is bipolar or schitzo.

102,000k and never left me stranded.

JD can say whatever they want about our cars, I prefer having to deal with cracked steering buttons than a seized engine

2002 C240 6-spd (ret)
My C240's steering wheel lock motor froze up and wouldn't let me start the car -- had to have it towed. I was out of town and this is the only problem I've had with the car except for the driver seat heater going out.

BTW, the lock motor is the noise you hear when you insert or remove your key.

Never in either of them. Even with 163,000 miles on it my 190E as never let me down. My C with 32,000 on it also has never let me down either. Now the Ford's, Dodge's, Chrylser's and the Saturn I have had in the past all let me down at one time or another and needed a tow.

dead/dying Smartkey (not a battery issue)

had to fiddle with it a few times before i finally got the car to start (then drove home.. i aint stopping the car again!!)

supposedly if your key battery dies, you merely plug it into the ignition as usual, and the EIS will charge the key so it can draw out the signal. it takes a bit longer (just wait for the steering wheel to unlock).. but that wasnt the case for mine..

My late 01 240 ran great! No problem with the engine. It wasn't until a stupid girl, who had her license for three months, ran a stop sign, hit me head on, and totaled it.

CL 55 AMG
Angry

Stranded 300 miles from home.
1) My keyless go card wouldn't unlock the door; and I left the smart key in glove box (not too smart).
2) AAA gets the doors open by pulling on the inside door handle with a hook made out of a hanger.
3) Alarm goes off (loud).
4) Get smart key from glove box, but can't shut off alarm.
5) Smart key not working, cant shut off alarm, none of the buttons (on the key) function and can't turn igintion.
6) Call road side assistance, tells me its a dead battery (car).
7) Road side arrives, not dead battery (car) not dead battery (key) may be bad EIS, must tow car to dealer on Monday (stuck for the weekend)
8) Ahhh, miss my hot date, may miss work monday, tuesday, week?
9) Contemplating flying home for the second pair of key, may be useless.
10) Stuck in NY no car no date, pissed off!!!
11) Will post results next week.

Unfortunately yes ...but i wouldnt say it was the cars fault.
Summer '05 in Portugal the car had a really bad case of gas - literally. Since its a summer car, it sits 10-11 months out of the year in a garage. And that year for whatever reason (maybe the diesel went bad or the diesel was dirty from the previous year but it caused the fuel filters to get clogged with debris. There was so much gunk in the fuel tank that it completely clogged the filter which starved the engine. On our 250km road trip it quit twice on the highway. Luckily first time it was right beside a garage and got the filter changed but the second time was not so lucky. While my dad went to find a mechanic the police came and gave us a ticket. Theyre very strict in Portugal about with having your four-ways on and tringle.
Lesson learned and soon after we had the tank cleaned and its been good so far
Pic is of the car stuck on the side of the road the first time

Yep, battery died 200 yds from my destination. (after driving 250 miles) Pushed it and and MB roadside assistance came out to put in a new battery. $181
Techie said it would have cost $250 at dealer because of labor. Will change to a new battery @ 3 years.....

had a flat tire during winter time @ 10 degrees. the rim was frozen and wont come off. it was 1 am in the morning. I waited for the AAA ****** to get someone out to tow my car home. A tow truck finally showed up at 4:30 am. *** it..
