BTW, there is logic built into the system - if the pedal is not pressed down all the way tapping the kick down switch does nothing.

Anyways, thats the kick down switch, when u floor it and hit that button it will kick down the transmission into the lowest gear possible. I'm not sure the advantage of this setup.. it seems like a poor design to me, if I have the gas pedal pressed down that far, I expect the transmission to be in the appropriate gear already, I wouldn't think there would be a need for a switch.

I had a 98' automatic CLK200K and it had the switch and it was great
One question, I have my coupe, a diesel one, with 6 manual gears and it have the switch too!!!
Does it do anything, I didn't noticed yet???

It is to tell the ECU that the Drive By Wire Throttle is at Wide Open Throttle on all models. Also is the kickdown for the auto tranny. The tranny by design will only drop one gear lower unless you hit that switch. So if you are going 40 MPH in 5th and floor it but do not engage the kickdown switch you will only drop to 4th gear. The switch tells the tranny controller to drop to the absolute lowest gear that can be used so at 40 it would drop to at least 3rd. I even have this on my 190E, it uses a standard bowden cable for downshifting but at say 25 I am in 4th if just cruising, so it will only drop to 3rd. Well I want 2nd so I push hard enough to engage the switch and then my transmission drops to 2nd for me. Also in that car it forces a 1st gear start as opposed to 2nd gear which is normal. Its main purpose though is WOT!

that button get's pressed like 35 times a day in my coupe
Does anyone else notice that it tries poping back out after 1~2 gears? Example: from still stand, floor pedal activating button & hold, stiffen your neck as you take off and watch the ESP triangle flash at you, after 1st gear with auto it feels like the button is trying to puch back out. Now I can push a little harder to keep it in, but if I don't pay attention, it'll pop out.
Anyone else have this?
