front plate bracket - requires drilling into the bumper?

does the front plate bracket (US) require drilling into the front bumper?

i'd hate for my dealer to drill into it. i want to make sure they dont when it arrives. i dont plan on running a front plate. when i had a TL, they had a clever way of mounting the front bracket without drilling. some of my bimmers had a specific bracket, but newer models required drilling into the bumper...

Just make sure your dealer understands that if there are holes there you will not be purchasing the vehicle. It worked for me. I have no front plate

Yeah they have to drill into the bumper for the bracket to stay on. The good news is the bumper is angled and so is the bracket and they only line up one way, so some young kid doing the drilling in the prep area can't screw up and get it on there crooked. You might check with your dealership about not putting it on though. When I got my ML I was looking into getting the push bar for the front, but it mounted where the front license plate did and my dealer informed me they could sell it to me but not install it because I live in a state that requires a front plate.

I was so angry when I took my car home after purchasing it and found that the front plate had been drilled in! I didn't realize it because all of my other Benzos didn't come with the front plate drilled in already and I took it for granted...I learned my lesson the hard way!!

argh... that makes me sad, hope they don't slip with the drill. My &$*@ state requires front plates... That's gotta be nice for other people who are not required to have them because then you don't have those ugly empty holes or worse a flat spot on the front where the plate would go.

My dealer doesn't put the front bracket on, they let you request that.

This product is from an old thread I started on here a while ago, I thought it would be awesome to make it work on the W204 using the tow hook mount.....

Now that is slick. I might try and get one of these ordered up and tell my dealer not to drill any holes. Thanks for the link!

Every state is different, some state don't require to put the front license plate and dealer will not drill holes if you ask them not to.

I ask my sales don't drill holes to the front bumper but she said she has to follow by the new California Law, ( 12 months ago, they didnt have to drill if customer ask not to ) and they did drill holes on my beautful AMG front bumper for the license plate.

I was not happy with it, but they gave me 2 AMG license brackets to convince me to put the front license plate, I might put the custom front license plate for this car since I got too many tickets for not putting the front on.

In some city in CA, you will get tickets and cost you big money if you don't have a front license plate.
