Help me find a Sandisk SDHC to PCMCIA reader!
#27
Remember..there can only be a TOTAL of 255 folders on the memory card..that was messing me up for a good while...until I read it here.
It's true. Any more than 255 folders and stuff "won't show up" on your COMAND system. I thought I was going nuts, because when I put it in the computer....I could see EVERY folder...but the car couldn't. I downsized the number of folders from 271 to 167....and everything is good now. Each ARTIST is the name of a folder...works fine for me. When I want to make a "playlist", I just put the songs in order...in a folder and then name the folder to the playlist name that I choose. Works very well.

I gave up on the Sandisk 6-1 reader - even Sandisk is out of stock.
From a thread on Benzworld, I learned of this card reader from and EBayer in Hong Kong. It looks identical to the Sandisk and is HC, so should work with my 8gb card. I bet they are both made at the same factory! Will let you know.

Doesn't work w SDHC
Buyer beware... this reader does NOT work with SDHC (although it does state that it does on the card). Works fine with regular SD, but SDHC is a no-go. :-(

I actually went the CF route instead (since I've got plenty of spare CF cards for my DSLR); seems to work fine. I've tested up to capacities of 8gigs and all seems well thus far.
Actually, slightly OT but does anyone really copy music to the 4Gig registry? I currently leave mine blank - I'd hate to think what a Hard Disk failure would entail for our units (plus I'm secretly paranoid that the system may require larger swap files for other things such as the Navi).

Sorry for reviving the topic but this is something that I had just recently been trying to implement for my car. I'm getting sick of burning new CDs all the time and need a better way. I do have the ridiculous iPod integration kit ($375) but I don't have an iPod, lol.
Anyways, googling has led me to believe there are two versions of SanDisk 6-in-1 PCMCIA adapters (SDHC support and non-SDHC). The non-SDHC support is quite expensive ($80-$100) and can be found on Amazon. The SDHC support is nowhere to be found but I know it used to exist because I found an image of it. You can look at the images attached and discern which ones are SDHC and non-SDHC. If someone has a link where SDHC support is in stock to buy and could post a link, that would be great.
Another issue is that since PCMCIA is a rather relatively older interface and has two different versions (16bit and 32bit). I'm not sure if the MB MM system would be able to handle the newer and faster 32bit interface but I'm thinking that it would be safe to just purchase a 16bit one. From previous reports, others have addressed that the Viking 5-in-1 PCMCIA 32bit adapter hasn't worked for them. The only logical assumption that I could make from this is that the MB MM doesn't support 32bit. If anyone has tried and had a 32bit PCMCIA adapter work, please post a link of that make/model.
Looking at it from a cost perspective. SDHC seems to be cheaper than going with the alternative Compact Flash (CF) method.
SDHC method
PCMCIA adapter supporting SDHC (about $20 on eBay)
16GB SDHC flash memory card (about $15-$20 on eBay)
CF method
PCMCIA adapter supporting CF (about $10 anywhere)
16GB CF memory card (about $50-$100 on eBay)
Basically, I went with the SDHC method ($35 total) on eBay and will report later whether it works.

They must discontinued supplying that item. I don't see it on their site. I do see a PANASONIC PCMCIA ADAPTER but that is $100 CAD and doesn't support SDHC, only "SD Memory Cards, miniSD Memory Cards with miniSD Adaptor, and Multi Media Cards."
