Favor/Request - My new car
They found me one (and there only seems to be one in the US) that is Steel Grey exterior with black leather/wood trim (luxury model) C300. ...and it actually has the packages I want!
My favor/request is regarding the exterior color -- I haven't seen many (possibly just one or two but not recently) steel grey C-classes on the road or anywhere... and everytime I see a "gray colored" vehicle of other brands, I'm noticing that it just looks dirty/bland. Is the Steel Grey a metallic/shiny grey color? I've browsed eBay, and every thread on this forum that I could find to look at pictures of the steel grey color. So my request - to anyone out there with a steel grey C-class - please post some additional pictures of it in the daylight?
Also, by all means give me some input on the steel grey color... I'm thinking its the "not yet so popular color" that Pewter was when I first got it a few years back - then "boom" everyone had it.
I'll keep everyone up to date on this process as I negotiate and hopefully take delivery of my new baby! :-)
Many thanks,
- Eric
Look up this review by Edmund, they have a steel grey.
Edmund review
I saw it in dealer's lot, under both sunlight and fluorescent. Under fluorescent its beautiful, a scent of purple hue. Under sunlight, its a bit blend and more flat, unless there are some direct sunlight shining right on it.
Personally my choice was ob black but i was debating between the two.
My advice, find a dealership with that color car, see it in person ask them if they can bring one out under the light....
EDIT: reason being, computer interpets colors differently and are depended on your monitor/lcd's capability display them... not even mentioning different camera takes in different colors as well....so don't depend on pictures so much... however that being said, check out this guys' post, lots of nice steel grey pix

I will definitely check out the color in person at the lot -- they apparently have ONE steel grey, but a sport package (close enough for color evaluation)...
Thanks again, and I'll let you all know my progress!

Here's hoping that they can manage a trade and get me my car! More details to come...

My friend JC has an '07 E320 Bluetec in that color and he likes it but I don't. Looks kind of muddy to me.

As for how the color looks when its drity... I was an auto detailer for years.
I love clean cars, I can easily spot a drity silver car. People say that silver cars look cleaner, I disagree. A silver or any color car will loose its shine when drity. So a clean car simply shines.
You want a clean looking car or do you want a shiny car?

Now it looks like I get to play the "counting the days" game like so many others. I'll post more details as I get them!

I've never owned a black car before, but I've always admired old W202's in black that I see on the road. Since this W204 makes me reminisce about the W202, I'm really psyched to get my new car, especially since I'm buying this one -- no more leasing for me! :-)
Plus I'm getting the vehicle at that Costco pricing which is $500 over invoice.
In all I'm saving $7k-$8k by jumping ship on my lease and starting to finance my next car immediately.
I didn't wax mine yet, after 5 months or so I don't need to so no need for the swirl marks yet.

correct me if I'm wrong but swirl marks are caused by any cloth/sponge material you used to wash the car with, no matter how fine it is, you can't help it, all other colors are the same, just that it doesn't show as clearly as black...
It's true: you'll get those paint faults no matter what, but you can minimize the effect by only using good quality cloths (I use microfiber towels for both washing and drying, personally) and using many many of them.
I usually use three buckets of water 1. soapy water, 2. a bucket of just water to take off large debris from used towels, and 2. another bucket of clear water for a second wash before I re-soap the towel.
Then when the towel gets too dirty (in my eyes), I just switch to a fresh one. I end up using around 6~7 of them. But I have 12 microfiber towels for each car wash, just in case. And all used towels are put through the washer after each car wash.
I dunno if that's the best way, but that's just the way I do it.
