Hey Petje,
Wondering whether you, and others who have SB, have any audio noise since installing the SB? When I set the audio input to AUX (but dont play any audio) it is more noticable. The seller is willing to provide an exchange but I just wanted to see whether others SB users are experiencing the same issue.

I finally broke down a bought one. I am amazed in the difference. If anyone says it doesn't improve performance- they are frickin crazy. Best $300 I spent on this car.

SprintBooster does NOT make your car faster from a stop. It will make for faster passing once you get going because it will make the tranny downshift much faster. Resetting the tranny sometimes works, but that does not erase the lag of the transmission. It's the same problem with many eletronic throttles. BMW's have that too, I believe, but surprisingly a 2008 IS250 didn't seem to have it when I drove it. Mash the throttle, it downshifts to the lowest gear almost instantly. My C350, it downshifts one lower gear, takes another half second, then downshifts to the lowest gear. Very annoying, but somewhat fixed with addition of the SB. I like my C350 much better with the SB installed. But I do like the throttle response of the IS250 better than my C350. May be 2009 C classes have that fixed, but not my 2008 C350.

The Sprint Booster is essentially a voltage booster that is installed inline on the throttle circuit. The more voltage you send to the electric motor, the faster it spins up. Factory e-gas/DBW throttle systems are programmed with a certain amount of lag to prevent jerkiness in throttle response, especially on automatic vehicles. The majority of consumers want smooth ride and response from their automobiles.
The Sprint Booster isn't designed to add HP, it's added to decrese the lag and resonse time of the throttle valve. Think of it this way, you can open a door smoothly with a set controlled amout of force/pressure, or you can slam the door wide open with increased force/pressure. The Sprint Booster does this esentially by increasing output voltage to the throttle valve.
It doesn't remap the ECU, it does remap the TCU, it fools the system by sending a higher voltage. Even if you mash on the pedal, the stock setup is programmed to have a max output and lag in the circuit.
I've driven a number of cars with and without the Sprint Booster, it's nice to have the added oomph when overtaking or trying to get out of a sticky situation, especially in an automatic.

What it does is that it changes the throttle response. So if you step on it for 1cm, the car will think you are stepping on it for 3cm. It doesnt increase power or tq AT ALL! There is a great find on the web regarding this product. It really depends on what you want your car to do (better throttle response vs more power gain). It actually works the same if you step on it harder to begin with. So $300 bucks worth it? It's your car and its your call on that!

I have been reading about the sprint booster since I bought my SL and couldn't decide if it was worth it or not. The first one I purchased worked intermittantly and I exchanged it for another one and OMG it is as different as night and day. I have to cross a busy highway to get into my development and I was very cautious becuase I wasn't sure if I would have enough speed to make it. Once I had the SB installed, I cross with ease. It doesn't increase horsepower but it does give you added passing power and off the line power. I very rearly was able to break the tires in 1st gear and now can do it effortlessly.
If I turn off the traction contol, you can really get em squeeling. Not good for your tires but fun non the less at times.
Again, until you try it, you won't believe the difference, I had the Mercedes technician drive it and he wondered what I did to my car. He was impressed as well as the Service Advisor. They also had SL's new body style.
The Sprint Booster is imported from Canada, I didn't know that but I was able to pick mine up in Glen Burnie, MD from JRP Performance which is the official importer. Paid by credit card in Canadian dollars which resulted in a savings. Tommy the parts guy was awesome and gave me the number of an installer and had it put in about 15 minutes. The SL's have to have the panel underneath the dash dropped.
Try it and you'll buy it. Besides, you get a 30 day money back warranty.
Enjoy!

does it do anything electronically or does it merely shorten the travel distance for your accelerator? I ask because I hear problems of people with stuck accelerators (not SB related) and I'd hate to mess with anything that *may* cause that.

Its all electronically, small device that get plugged in between the origianl harness to the gas pedal.
You might want to hold of on buying a SB since another member is testing a similar device which should give us a good comparison (he currently has the SB as well)

Can a sprint booster be used in conjunction with a tuning box on the engine ??
Does anyone know or have results of this kind of set up ??
TIA.

You have to remember that *all* a sprint booster does is lies to the ECU that you have pushed the throttle down further than you actually have. It shortens the pedal length (electronically) so that you are already 'flooring it' before the pedal reaches the floor. This means that the last part of your gas pedal travel is now dead, useless. If you floor a car with a SB and a stock car next to it, they will accelerate identically. If you push the stock car to half throttle, and the one with the SB to 1/4 throttle, they will both accelerate similarly (I have no idea what the actual mapping is so I am making up this 1/4 number but you get the idea). The point is that it really does nothing. Just putting it out there for those reading the thread. No need to flame about it. Running away from the thread now. Enjoy your SB!
