And the instructions for the side sill/back nets including a power drill and drilling a hole through the car's sheet metal! No joke!

Anyone else installed these darn nets yet? What is it about Mercedes-Benz and nets that just doesn't seem to ever be simple!

... as would I. I got the floor cargo net installed, but not the side and back ones yet because of the drilling needed *sigh*. I may have to try to push my luck with the service guy and see if they can do it for me ;-).

What in the world... Didn't it used to be that the hooks were pre-installed and you just needed to buy the net?

There's no way I would be drilling anything on, in, or near my car...partly because I barely even know how to use a drill. Haha. Geez MB.
If you want them installed, definitely have it done by the dealer...no way I would take the chance.

yeah. that's retarded. Any option like that should have already been predrilled and ready for screw in.

Before, you get into drilling...are you are that you have to use a drill? This seems rather odd.

When I get my side net and rear net, I had to pull out this plastic nut that looked as though it would not come out. Took a minute to figure out, after that it was pretty easy to install.

The instructions actually mention a drill with 4mm diameter bit... etc etc.

My W203 had pop-off covers over preset holes for this, but not this puppy.

The luggage nets were to be installed upon delivery. The service techs only installed the floor net. Ran out of time, was their only reason for leaving the trunk sill and the side net untouched. Okay fine, I made an appointment to bring my car a month later for the remaining 2 nets.

The 2nd time around, to my disappointment, only the trunk sill was installed. The side net remained untouched. So I had to write an angry letter to the service department. How many visits must a customer make to install some a simple net???

The service advisor initially says that the side net can not be installed. That's absurb. I know it can be. I've seen it on the MBUsa website. Plus, this forum has a wealth of info and this has been discussed before, so I know it can be done. After my insistence, the service advisor checked into it and called me back the next day and says, he'll need to order a bracket (which was not in the original net package).

3rd time around....the bracket was installed, then the side net finally was installed after repeated trip to and from the dealership for a simple net installation. It was an absolute waste of my time. Problem solved in the end right....?

Wrong!

After the side net install (the bracket installation stage may be the culprit), everytime I go over bumps or have even a minimal amount of bass from the rears speakers, I hear rattling sounds. Over time, this has gotten soooooo ridiculously annoying, I had to go back for another service call a month later.

4rd time around (today), I finally picked up my car with the rattle sounds insulated and loose panels and clips resecured. The rattle sounds finally got eliminate...back to day 1 when I picked up my rattle-free car.

This luggage net is an absolute waste of my time. Mercedes-Benz should be ashamed of themselves. Why should I have to tell the service advisor that it can be installed? And why should I have to make THREE round-trips for installation and waste more time to repair faults left behind by the side net installer?

You're damn right, I'm pissed off.

For what it's worth, I would have said, keep your damn luggage nets. Just knock $400 off my price tag. Or, give me the non-slip cargo liner instead.

Oh, and are the nets practical? Only the floor net is good. If you have a long handle umbrella, then the trunk net isn't going to hold it. So don't get fooled by the picture of a small umbrella protruding the top of the trunk net. It's not practical. As for the side net, it's an absolute waste. I have used it once. I would usually put small items in the floor net.

My case may be a rarity. But I'm not taking any chances.

Take my advice. Don't waste your time. I care about MB drivers.

Eric,
Just wondering how you made out with the side and sill nets? Did u end up drilling through the metal? I hope my experience helped...and save you from heartache on your new baby.

...I find myself holding the drill towards the car yet unable to make the hole... As if I'm performing a surgery and don't know what I'm doing LOL...

More details to come - and I'll take picts if/when I do it.

Many thanks for the heads up re: the dealership though!

You have the floor net already installed. That's the most practical net of them all. When not in use, that floor net is completely out of obstruction. The side and trunk nets are useless and over time...more of an annoyance. It gets in the way of loading and unloading items. In fact, I am going to pack away the side and trunk nets tomorrow. Tomorrow them away. Such an eye sore (and bad memories).
