Help - engine revving on its own in Park

Ive got a problem with my 2 mth old C. Its never happened before, but just today when i got home and left it in Park, the engine decides to start revving, and it revs like how you would stomp on the pedal and let it go, stomp on it and let it go....as if it is getting ready to sprint off from start at a drag race.

Anyone had this problem?? and do you know why?? im going to bring it to the dealer but just wanted to know if anyone had this problem...

Make sure your floor mat is not wedged against the gas pedal . Sounds stupid and might not be your solution but it happened to me once. Good luck

its the beast inside your car and it wants to go fast! jk. you seriously need to take it to a dealer and have them replace some parts. This is the first i've heard of a car reving on its own in park.

I never understand why people with a new car and service issues ask for help when they have help from their warranties. Take the car to the dealer and let them figure out the problem while you cruise around in a rental and go about your day.

not sure where ur located but if its really cold, engines tend to do that to try and warm up the engine faster

Because lots of dealers are full of BS & will try to do anything to get out of a repair. So loading up with ammo from this forum is a way to go to the dealer with an educated guess to provide support when they say they dont see the problem or that they can not reproduce the problem.

But do you really think something like this can be diagnosed over the internet especially when little information is known except "the car revs". I've been involved with cars for a long time and that tells me nothing except time to get the diagnostic tools out that I'm sure most people don't have.

I'm not a fan of dealers either but they aren't so bad as not wanting to fix anything.

Im not necessarily talking about us diagnosing the problem, but sharing experiences. Thats what forums are for right?

If someone else has had this problem before & found out how to fix it, that is good information to take to the dealer to say "I have heard that people with this problem have had it fixed by replacing the _______".

Sounds like the idle control circuit, which is a combination of software and injection hardware, is amiss. Not common, but not unheard of, either.

Off to the dealer for a good diagnosis.

Right on, make sure you let us know what they find out. Hope it's no big deal whatever it is.

Yeah i must have missed the "R" after the "S" mode... Anyways got my ride back today....spot one "Red Demon08".....it was the airmass sensor that was causing the revs.....got that switch out to a new one and it seems fine now....The guy at the dealers didnt really know how to explain the reason for the perculiar behavior but he said that it was the massair sensor that messed up the throttle....so as long as everythings fine, im happy now....

Glad to hear it was something simple to diagnose and resolve! Thanks for the update.
