Should I paint my calipers?

I was just looking for opinions on painting calipers.
What do you guys think? I created a poll with color options i'd consider.

Paint it. Painted calipers isn't really rice. Brembos on Mercs isn't rice, so I don't see how this would be.

Another color I'd suggest you put up is yellow. Yellow and white were the two colors I debated over. Red is pretty well played out and too common.

because Brembos are Brembos :o

in my ricer days, i wanted to paint my calipers, but i'm glad i never did...and i'm glad i grew out of that stage pretty quickly too :o ...just my opinion, but i think leave them unless you can afford to get new calipers like brembo, stoptech, wilwood, etc..

I personally dont think painting calipers is but I also would never paint an OEM non brembo caliper red. I think with a white 204 you should paint the caliper white. When I had a 203 there was someone with an alabaster 203 and color matched the calipers and it looked 100% better then others who painted red or left the stock brushed silver.

hmm, yeah, I kinda see that. I was mainly meaning about the look of the car when you have colored bbk on a merc. Maybe it wasn't stated eloquently clear. I color matched my car so the colors were more blended and subtle and not popping like that.

Just go with whatever color or non-color you want and think looks good.

IMO, painting calipers look cheezy and cheap, especially on a lux car like MB.

Painting Calipers

I assume you have a white car like me. I am painting my calipers black because I am going with a black on white theme. Black Tints, Smoked out tails, black wheels. If youre gonna paint em do it in black because if you paint them white they are gonna a be a ***** to clean and always dirty, especially the backs where the rotors arent slotted. I dont believe painting them is ricey at all I have an M3 with a brembo gran turismo kit with the red calipers and never hated on the guys who had M3s n painted their stock calipers....

Actually, surprisingly, white isn't that bad to clean as you'd think. Sure you get some brake dust, but it's pretty light and not that noticeable, even after a couple weeks of driving. Black isn't a bad option since the front is basically already painted black in the first place...just finish the job and paint around the rectangular face.

I basically see color matching calipers to body scheme no different than painting the front grille. You're trying to maintain a fluid color scheme. If you paint it in some off color just for pop effect, then yeah, I can buy into that ricer argument.

Ya i kinda just wanted to see the views of everyone else, but in the end I will do what i like, but i see how black could look good, i have black grill, tint, and gun metal rims, it would add to the contrast of the car

i was also considering blackout headlight housing, and doing the roof black (vinyl)

2011 BMW 335xi titanium silver.
I previously had mine painted black on the Audi. I have a silver A4. The shop suggested yellow with the silver. After driving the car through the winter, the black doesn't show up that nicely anymore.

I was aiming for a more subtle custom look to the car and didn't like the rust. Still, it looks better than the rust.

BTW Pfaff in Vaughan quoted me a crazy price to get all 4 powder coated and baked (full dissembling and complete painting). At that price, I could have purchased a new set of calipers!

Went with the Trendclad DIY.

isn't our front break caliper GRAY with Mercedes BENZ logo?
I like that. I wish they did the same w/ the rear....

If you paint your calipers... aren't u gonna paint over the MB logO?

well, the front plate is black, but the rest of the caliper is gray/silver. And yeah, you'd be painting over the logo, so you'd need to get some vinyl logo to put back on. You can play around with the logo or just go standard Mercedes Benz. I opted for CF patterned vinyl Mercedes Benz. Small touch and not really noticeable though. I'd also suggest clear coating with it with paint specifically for calipers over the vinyl to protect the paint and the logo. Also makes wiping them clean easy as pie.

I've heard painting the calipers may adversely affect handling. You would be adding weight to the wheels in the form of the paint, which increases unsprung weight (sounds like a dirty word).

I got it through JS Design who runs a booth through our shop. http://www.promaxms.com/jsdesigns.html

Just contact John and he can make any decal in any size and color you want. His work has been featured on many cars in many magazines.

Oooh, I see what you're saying...yeah, sorry, don't think they make those. I'd be wary of putting any nonstandard add-on pieces like that to the caliper anyways.

I wonder if the front calipers could be adapted for the rears somehow.... That way you'd get a full looking caliper to paint and design up without spending on BBK. My knowledge on those is very limited though, but I'm thinking it probably wouldn't work or be safe.

Pics are on my home comp. Will see if I can dig up pics of them so you and angeloxnet and see how white calipers on white car looks.
