MB Folding Mirrors & Sunroof problems

If I were buying a new C ,I would definitely steer away from the folding mirrors & sunroof options, going on all the problems the people are having in this forum. They spoil the integrity of a car that otherwise does everything well.

I've had no problem with either. And here in the US I don't believe you can get the w204 without a sunroof.

Both are standard equipment in N America up until now and the only problems people think they have with the sunroof are mostly because they haven't read the manual.

I have had trouble with neither at almost one year.

Well, I would be one who have problem with my folding mirrors and Sunroof. All 3 squeak sometimes. I have a feeling it have to do with the temp outside. Only seem to happen when it is really hot. Although the folding mirror does squeak even when I am inside my garage in the morning. That I think maybe dues to some sensor not touching and the mirror think it is not folded out completely yet.

I sprayed WD40 and seems to help for a bit and then back to squeaking again.

I just try to block them out for now until I get to the $ealership next time.

My driver side mirror squeaks like crazy when it is folded out. I've been to the dealer 3 times for it and Mercedes knows about the problem and they actually sent out an email to the dealers saying yes, there is a problem... but at this time... there is no solution to fix it. My lugnuts on my tires also rusted out before I even hit 17k miles. I wish I would have purchased another Volvo.

the folding mirror on my passenger side is starting to squeak a bit, as with the sunroof which has a bit of a jerky motion to it when it's trying to close. i hope i can get it all sorted out at my next to the dealership. despite these bugs, MB still has a pretty good reputation in my book.

My driver side mirror squeaks very loudly when unfolding. Not always, jut every now and then. I can live with it. Sunroof is a bit noisy when popping it up. I think something just needs to be lubricated with the sunroof.

As for the lugnuts, mine were all rusted also, before 20k miles and I just had the dealer replace them all under warranty about a month ago.

Well your dealer sucks...there is a TSB for the mirrors...so yes there is a fix and the sunroof needs to be cleaned and lubed by the dealer...i just had both issues resolved thanks to the warranty.

You should bring it in to the dealer and have them look at it. When I dropped of my car with noise for the sunroof (it was just little louder then normal) they determined that their was actually something broken with the sunroof and took it in for 2 days to repair it.

As far as the mirror, they also replaced my left mirror but it still makes that squeeking sound once in a while (seems to be more when its cold).

Bring it in...

I am taking my car in for my B service within the next couple of weeks, so I'm starting a list of things I want (need) done while its in there. Update my command system, look at the sunroof (just sounds like its really straining when I am popping the roof open), fix the squeaky driver side mirror, and the studded cover just came off of my emergency brake pedal.

My sunroof occasionally squeaks upon opening but it doesn't bother me that much. As of lately, whenever I have the roof completely open, I hear a rumbling noise coming from it. Once I shut the plastic roof top the noise goes away, or maybe the roof top prevents me from hearing the rumbling. It's getting on my nerves so I'll probably stop by the dealership one of these days.

Mine only seems to squeak when its wet or raining out. I think the foam material they use to keep it running smooth soaks up the water and expands, causing the squeak. Haven't tried anything, but I may try WD-40 to see if it helps at all, though its not that much of a problem in the first place.

MB ordered MB spain to re-program the movement range of side mirrors in order to correct the squeaking noise as a first step, and the second and final step seems to be the mirrors replacement.
This is just what my dealer told me when i carried my ride there for the A service, so they did first step...now i´m not listening anything at all including the movement sound exceeding mirror opening.

Cheers and sorry about my english...

Can you post the TSB numbers?

The dealer's already replaced my mirrors once and I'd be curious to see what the official position is on these items. Service manager said it's because MB used plastic pieces in the housing. Sometimes the motor will not realize the mirror is unfolded and will continue trying to open it, hence that charming grind sound that some of us hear periodically.

My sunroof just squeeks once in a while so I think a lube ought to fix it.

I have the Mirror thread saved because I have had alot of problems with noise opening and closing the mirror.

Not sure how to copy your post but it says:

I don't fold mine any longer because of the noise.

have you found a fix for it??
