Are DoorDings an American Pehenomenen?

I grew up and drove for 6 years in England and door dings where not something I ever worried about or got. Are American drivers just less considerate of other peoples property? Do drivers in other parts of the world have to worry about some ******* swinging their door into the parked car.

I drove for two years in Singapore and never got a door ding. Lived in Hong Kong for a couple years and although I didn't have a car, had a couple friends with vehicles that never seemed to get dings either. Don't forget to take into account that in Singapore and especially HK, the parking was tight!!

I'm the same. I park so far away you wouldn't believe it. This one mall I go to a couple times a year, they got parking for like the year 2100 or something, so I park so far out there. It's so far of a walk you would not believe it. Takes over 10 minutes no exaggeration.

It's a bit scary walking out there to be honest as no one is around.
If no one is there, how is it scary? Unless of course there are random guys wearing all black with big baseball bats :P
Then I would run back to my C

I would love it out there. Empty, huge parking lot. Free driving practice?

funny thread. This is just the reason I pulled the trigger on the 400$ ding warranty. Any ding, smaller than a playing card is covered, no deductible, no nothing, just bring it in and it is repaired free. Sort of mental comfort.

Well the worst happened to me today. I went to get my car washed after letting it be covered in salt for the past month. When it came out of the wash, I saw right way a scratch along the side. I got closer, and the scratch is huge, along the passenger door and continues onto the front panel. I asked the guy if it could have been from the car wash and he said he highly doubts it. I was still unsure so I brought it next door to the MB body shop. The guy looked at it and said it's not just a scratch but it's dented in. I looked from another angle and he was right. He said he doesn't think it was from the wash because of the position of the dent/scratch, which made sense. It might have happened at some point in the past 3 or 4 weeks. The guy quoted me at $900 to $1,100. Any suggestions? It's quite noticiable. I was thinking about calling my insurance, but not sure if it's cheaper to just pay it myself (deductible is $500). I'mreally upset because I've only had the car for about 5 months and it was in perfect condition.
