And when a car is totalled, it becomes the property of the insurance company and the bank or leasing company that owns it gets paid first. The former owner does NOT get to sell parts off it.
And they would most likely depreciate it.
Lots of consequences to screwing around, aren't there?
I hope you learned your lesson, and hope you can get your car back. If you do, you need to keep it. Don't sell that to anyone else. Hopefully your insurance will not drop ya like it's hot.

on a total loss car you are allowed to take anything off that you put on extra, but 99% of the time they will not care if take some extra stuff off. The car will be sold off by the insurance company to an auction house or to a junkyard. They won't take another look at the car after it's declared total loss by one of their inspectors. You are still the legal owner of the car until insurance hand you the fat check for the car.
