Fuel flap?

I just picked up my 09 C230 and was wondering if there is a button to release the gas flap to fill up the tank?. I was reading the manual and it said to unlock the doors to release the flap (press in to unlock). Is this the only way to open the fuel flap?

Hey yea I was confused at first too! haha After the doors are unlocked, go to the gas tank and press the little door inwards towards the car then let go. (It's like the whole door is one huge button), then it will open.

Yea I totally agree, they should have put a switch near the trunk button by the drivers seat.

Finger prints? An urbane and dapper MB driver would be wearing driving gloves, and this time of year a Kangol and a cashmere stadium coat

Use your nose or some other pointed device.

I don't understand how people prefer touch screen navigation devices (in a car), I hate finger prints but I haven't seen this an issue with the fuel filler flap. But perhaps the touch screen owners actually use their nose to avoid finger prints, haven't considered that option before.

as a lexus owner with both a touch screen and a button for gas flap release:

1) navigation...cant really see the finger prints unless the sun is directly on the screen. and thats not that likely. as for my hands, i keep them as grease free as possible.

2) i dont mind fingerprints on the outside. if you so wish, you can use a tissue

There is also an emergency release in the boot. Be sure not to pull too hard as you will break the 1mm plastic eye tie .

Have the clear bra people cover the flap. That'll protect the paint.

i've actually thought about putting the tab that i cut off the lamin-x film on the edge of the fuel door...but would that be safe on the paint?

Try a new bluetooth device for hands free opening of the gas flap.

Hey Sparky, how high do you think the explosion will toss you?

Yeah, sparks and gasoline. It's overplayed, eh?

Myth Busters did a show with cell phones and gas fumes. The only way they could get a cell phone to ignite gas vapors was to set in on fire first.

Well I guess if I was the dumb a$$ to try and open a fuel door with a bluethooth, I should be blown up anyway. Since im not over weight, I should go a good 50 feet air time before sliding another 30 feet. I hope this answers your question.

I saw that episode. Interesting.

In real life, I've built a cell phone as a product for market. I've seen plenty of sparks inside those things, and would never take it out of my pocket while pumping gas. But I don't worry about the phone in my pocket. The sparks I've seen are well contained by the phone casing and clothes.

Don't forget that these things have Li batteries, and they can be unstable. Oh well, it's always exciting to watch a laptop burn up. Cells are less likely, but they're smaller.
