What OEM part would you like to be different in your car?

Me for example I would like:
1. Background of the dials to be black not silver (reflects the sun in your eyes some times)
2. Better quality door pins
3. Instrument cluster to show that door is open before moving the car
4. Larger fuel tank (70 - 90 liters....)
5. Front bumper mesh higher quality material and same for the glass of the fog lights.

please continue with yours

I'd say

1) The door pins like you mentioned
2) Perhaps a bit more logically laid out display/control software. I have just the base, so no Nav/Command system, but the basic system has a lot of useful features.... just that the logic used in where some items were placed and how to get there could certainly be fine tuned in my opinion. Not talking about the physical buttons themselves, but the menu tree used to get to features for example.
3) A little more low end in the stock stereo.
4) Louder horn. My wife has a stock Volvo S40 with a horn that rivals a pickup truck's. A little bit of a "hey you're about to kill us both" authority to the horn would be nice.

C63 engine....

OK, how about trunk hinges that don't take up a ton of space, someplace to put my sunglasses, a glove box that will hold my owners manual, a dip stick that dosn't ALWAYS drop oil on my engine cover, standard fold down seats and a front passenger ejecter seat...

Add- Being able to control volume with the center console controller. Can you do that with MMI cars?

True, the owner's manual/glove box item would make sense. First time I went to go put the manual in the glove box was like a game of Tetris....

And while I'm revisiting this, let me add the location of the buttons to open the center console. In an odd spot that's hard to find by touch as it is just too far aft.

Less plastic, more wood/metal trim.

OP's #5 !!

That mesh plastic is shameful. Why would MB go and do something dumb like that?

(Living with a hole in my mesh 'cause I don't want to throw away money on a direct replacement that'll just get smashed again.)

Why not use the steering wheel buttons?

Diff

I prefer the Euro version center console with the tambour door over the cupholders.

And the glovebox, big as it looks, isn't.

I also don't like the too far from vertical steering wheel angle. Never have.

I've noticed that the wheel's face is aimed at my face (*UPDATE, was 'gut' but I had a better look today) rather than at my chest. Modern wheels should be aimed at your chest to provide a better effect if/when the airbag deploys.

That said, I like the top of my wheel low enough that I can barely see the numbers at the top of the speedo. That clearly is closer to vertical than aiming the thing at my head, but still a bad aim.

I think that the airbag has killed the vertical plane steering wheels of the past.

(You could always remove the airbag and set the wheel as you want, then drive carefully so you don't need the bag.)

As been said by others

1-door lock pins hate the OEM
2-plastic mesh it should be metal (Knock on wood my has never broken)
3-Glove box is way to small or the manual is to big
4-Aux power plug is needed in the center console.
5-The pad on the emergancy brake pedal comes off all of the time a real PIA to put back on.

If you can control everything else on the radio unit with your arm resting comfortably on the center console, why not the volume? Not a big deal but seems like it could have been added fairly easily to the menu on the bottom of the screen.

1) Better quality leather seats (my 02 VW Passat has far superior seats).
2) Position of the turn signal arm should be higher. I've accidentally pushed this arm with my left knee one too many times, setting off both the windshield & the head light cleaner fluid a few times.
3) User interface of the Command system could copy either the Lexus or the Infinity's systems.

Doesn't have anything to do with the airbag. The first thing I noticed when I first drove the dealer demo in 2007 was that the wheel's top was farther away that in previous MBs I've owned including both 201s. the 202 and the 203. All with airbags. If the angle from vertical matched the previous models which would move the top of the wheel perhaps 1/2 inch aft, I'd like it better. I keep the wheel as low as possible without obscuring the speedo top and now don't think about it anymore. But it took a while to get used to it.

Hmmm... how about a better TCU? Friggin drive-by-wire still has a lag time of next year even at kickdown point, despite having MB's most updated software.

Also, as previously mentioned, the door lock pins are absolute rubbish.

The engine is a DOHC. Is there something different you meant by that?

Sounds like what you're looking for would be better met by the BMW 3 series (if that's ok for me to say here) as it sounds like you're looking for more "sport" and less "luxury" as far as feel. You could always go up to the AMG model though.

sorry i have a W203 but here is my wish list...

1) seatbelt button; horrible ugly cheap plasitc

2) door lock pins; same

3) seperate the cruise control knob and turn indicator, too close together / easy to hit the wrong one.

4) short throw manual transmission or at least make it an option

One reason I configured my car without cruise control is same you pointed out and coming from Audi A4 M6, I also feel Mercedes has longer throws.

If you had owned a W203, you would not complain about the W204. The 203's throttle lag was almost unsafe.

I configured the new car and ordered without the option because I have that problem on my other car (w203).
I would get sleepy with auto transmission and cruise control.
All my cars are manual 6 transmission.

1) I'm probably one of very few, but I agree with the door pins, although for a different reason I'm sure. Most people hate them because they get in the way/are cheap etc. I hate them because they aren't the old classic golf-tee door pins that Mercedes has had for YEARS. Have a little class and put them back!

2) I agree with the glove box manual issue - although the manual fits perfectly fine in the trunk ;-)

3) Please give me a place for my sunglasses

4) Please finish off putting LED lights everywhere. We have LED map/reading lights, but still regular dull bulbs elsewhere. How about nice LED license plate bulbs like Lexus, huh? :-)

5) Designo packages in the US for this car. If you had offered me the designo gray metallic exterior, some nice color leather with the alcantara headliner - I got news for ya... I would have paid for it...

I'd like to see the chrome strip on the top on the door handles. It's a nice touch the it a lot of the other models.
