If you're primarily concerned with rear dust, Mecedes has a replacement pad for the rears now. It wasn't suppose to bet that dusty in rear. June 2008 production and older.

Yes for some people if you have a competent dealer. Have to be certain production dates and may be 1 year / 13,000 mile type of limit as well.

I'll check w/the stealership, but mine's an '09 and should've already had the new pads, right?

Any suggestions for aftermarket replacements?

PBR Axxis is very popular among Audi/VW enthusiasts. If you want the least dust with minimal performance degradation, PBR Axxis Deluxe Plus is your best bet, and this is what used to run on my VW Passat with fantastic performance and little or no dust for many years.

I'm not sure if there's a group buy for MB members, but I used to get mine over in the PassatWorld Market.

Note: The FMP Group Australia Pty. Ltd., is the manufacturer of Axxis and PBR brand brake pads; these pads are identical.

The PBR Axxis Ultimate brake pads feature a special Kevlar® and ceramic-strengthened formula with a high co-efficient of friction and excellent high temperature wear and fade resistance. Designed for ultra-high performance driving and hard-braking applications, PBR Axxis Ultimate pad users will benefit with extreme stopping power and high resistance to brake fade at high temperatures, meaning the decrease in friction over repeated heavy duty stops, as the temperature increases, is minimal. PBR Axxis Ultimate pads boast a maximum continuous working temperature of 550° C (1022° F degrees). Consistent throughout its operating temperature range, you’ll get dependable, predictable stops time after time while maintaining a solid pedal feel.

The PBR Axxis Metal Master pads are made from a Non-asbestos, semi-metallic compound that provides the highest fade resistance among leading semi-met brake pads. They deliver proven longer pad and rotor life, with low rotor scoring and quiet braking. They are made with a unique formula that offers reduced brake dust, fade and squeal. These are the longest lasting brake pad on the market!

The PBR Axxis Deluxe Plus brake pads offer an exclusive OE equivalent organic and mild ceramic compound that provides outstanding stopping power with very low fade. Extremely quiet with proven long pad and rotor life and low rotor scoring. These pads are formulated from the latest premium quality materials, and are known for their extremely low dust. The Deluxe Plus brake pads will virtually elminate brake dust, without hurting performance.

Thanks guys - I used Mintex on my v-dub, too with some Brembo slotted rotors. Just trying to see if anyone's gone down this road and what their experience has been (ie better than stock?).

I used the Axxis Deluxe pads on a previous bimmer E46. With the stock pads, the front wheels dusted almost as bad as the W204 rears do. The Axxis pads did eliminate the brake dust problem. They did squeal alittle at times, but it was well worth it. Cleaning brake dust is a major pain... I hope they come out with something soon...

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
PBR/ Axxis are the best I've ever used. I have a set of Mintex pads on my Volvo and I must say, they totally suck! I have never seen pads leave so much dust. They're getting replaced with ceramic pads next week.

So Axxis looks good, but I can't find a place that sells them for a 2009. Anyone have recommendations? Also, stock rotors, or do you suggest Brembo or another brand?

Not for nothing but i think i saw on a different MB forum that there is now a TSB ( Technical Service Bulletin ) for the pads that are causing the dust they did say that there was a certain time limit or build date that one had to meet in order for the dealership would change them for free ?? I never bothered since mine was over the mileage requirements or not in the build date uughhh !!! Im even thinking of going in and have them change them even paying for it ??? I'll try to look for the thread and post here.

I'm using AKEBONO on a 89 420SEL and I have seen no real dust at all.
Stopping wasn't compromised either.

Deluxe pads are very low dust, but need to be watched.

They eliminated dust, and no squeal on a 1998 audi A4. But, they were a bit too easy on rotors, and eventually allowed some corrosion of the rotor outer diameter.

Also, had 1 (mabe 2) cases of pad delamination from the back plate.

I had this done at 17,000 miles. Some dealers seem more willing to do it. Hopefully new pads will prove less dusty.

So I went to my dealer with my brake dust problem. My service adviser said there was no such technical bulletin. But after a little coaxing they did replace my rear pads. With my old pads I was cleaning off a layer of brake dust every week. Now with the new pads it's been 3 weeks and NO DUST AT ALL!

I just want to thank the members on this board that alerted me to this problem and solution. Props to you guys and Contemporary Motors in Little Silver, NJ.
