what are some good brands to look at for rims? I'm looking for something with thick fat spokes and gunmetal/dark silver finishes, and preferably the less expensive side.

no real budget at this point, I'm just looking around and planning for the future, I know I would like to stick to 17'' though.
I know in the past my mom's old E had problems with aftermarket rims, they got bent in under the weight of her car, so I want to make sure I avoid any problems with mine.

Check these out. Reasonable price and they will fit properly. Looks like the Mannheim might be your style but the Millennium is pretty classy as well. I would think 18s would still give you a good ride and look good as well. 17s may be just a bit too small to really do the car justice and it is the wheel quality and not soo much the size that you really need to pay attention to.

For budget minded, thicker spoke design, check out OZ Racing, Work, and Monarch lines of wheels. You could probably part out your OEM and do a near even exchange for a new set.

I personally think it doesn't suit the car. It looks like it should belong on a Chrysler Charger.
I would stick to wheels with a clean, classic and simple look.
If your budget is under $150 I would suggest these from Tire Rack (they all have appropriate offsets and some are available in staggered fitments):

what color is your car?

Remember, you get what you paid for. If you're concerned about cheap aftermarket rims spun in china (several have already been listed), you might run into the same issue you said you wanted to avoid with your mom's car. Stick with stock, or pony up bit more for better core material, else you'll end up regretting it.

two 18x8.5 offset 43 for front
two 18x9.5 offset 53 for rear
also would the center caps be able to be replaced with some benz logo caps such as these?

this first ones apparently would not, also im not sure of the quality that they are
these ones i've been told are great quality, and that as long as the offset was above 40 they would fit. I just need to make sure everything else is the right size, and that they will work with the tires.
