air pressure monitors

Has anyone changed their wheels and have 2 sets? I am looking for a set of C63 AMG wheels for the summer and the stock ones for winter. Can I purchase and program 2 sets of sensors?? A friend of mine with a Toyota 4 runner can only have the 1 set. Thanks.

Search TPMS or tire pressure sensors. This has been discussed ad infinitum.

Are you in the US? If so Tire Rack has them for 32.00USD each plus shipping. Talk to Kyle.

If they do, it's not listed on their TPMS page. The $31 model clearly states "cannot be used with OE monitoring systems".

The four sensors I bought a year ago from them cost $71 each and were identical to my factory sensors.

my dealer quoted me $375 for 4, I forgot to ask if you can program more than the 4 original sensors. I need 2 sets in NY for winter & summer.

I had to replace one of mine just a couple of weeks ago. And I paid 32.00 USD, I did not order from the website but talked to a salesman. When the tireshop switched them I checked and they were both the same. Made by Schrader.

I put new wheels and tires on our C300 Lux about 3000 miles ago [225/45x17 Michelin Primacy MXV4s and Rial wheels] from TireRack. The TPMS sensors that were installed by them at the warehouse were indeed Schraders, and were recognized instantly by the computer, without me having to reset the system or do anything at all.

anyone else have any experience with 2 sets of wheels? I would rather get the monitors someplace else other than the dealer and get the mount and balance redone and be all set. I am assuming you need to remove the tire from the rim to get the sensors in?

Yes, the sensors are integral with the valves, inside the wheel. The only way to access or replace them is by dismounting the tires.

Tire Rack will sell you the correct sensors [see my post above]. Many tire stores have the correct sensors for sale, but prices are all over the map, so you have to ask around.

Can you change out tires without getting new valve stems?

Certainly, as long as the tire people use care not to damage the existing valves. The days of routinely replacing valves are long gone, especially with the new TPMS sensors...but it's easy to damage them if the guy doing the tire dismounting doesn't exercise due care and diligence.

can you buy just the sensors from tire rack? So there is no programming, just get the sensors and have them installed by any tire store and I am all set? I am getting a set of C63 AMG wheels.

Sure. I think mine cost somewhere on the order of $60 each (plus shipping, of course). As I said, you may be able to beat that price locally - ask around.

If you still have the invoice, can you get us the model number? No point paying $70ish when the $32.00 works.

I just ordered 4 from tire rack, what a pain to find them. I had to go through and get wheels then get the correct sensors for a 2009 then remove the wheels from the cart. Total was $255. I hope they work.
