Cant believe how cheap the 350 is in the US
Just checked the base price on a C350 here in Sweden, its 480.000 SEK , that is approx $60.000
And that is without any options
How much is a C350 without options in the US?

2009 C300 4Matic
about $48,000 base for the 350
and + $2,000 for the 4-Matic...
(CDN $)
my 300 4-Matic started at about $41,000 finished at about $50,000... so if you want a top of the line 350 add about $10,000 on top...
damn @ $60,000... i thought that over in the east these kinds of cars were fairly cheap.
edit: for 60 thou you could get a AMG!
and + $2,000 for the 4-Matic...

47040 U.S. dollars.
If you add just 19% sales tax
55979 U.S. dollars.
This is standard C without anything extra added + no trim .
Plus here , we do not have health care free. Its 260 Euros for 2 person a month and no welfare funds for me. I have to earn for everything I want.
Ontop of that Fuel prices here are the most expensive than anywhere in the world.

All discussions about price outside the USA that don't include the local tax rate are simply meaningless.
That said, the US market continues to be the most competitive in the world, and prices are set accordingly.

Competition sets the price and the options in the US
MBUSA purchase their cars from MB corporate and the options and pricing are all based on matching competitive products on the market. They selectively choose what options they can include and still match the competition in both price and features, such as BMW, etc. Also, the bean counters in Montvale (MBUSA) have a say in what options to include and that is why many of the US MB packages create such a stir when offered to the public. Inclusion or exclusion of an option is also controlled by the number of buyers who have ordered a particular feature. If only 5% of the buyers order an option chances are good that it will not be offered in the US market.
As far as pricing, I just purchased a '09 C350 listed at $48,010 (includes factory delivery charge) that includes Metallic Paint, P2 (includes P1), Multimedia Package, Tele Aid, Pano Roof, 18" AMG wheels, and iPod integration. After discount, the delivery price is $44,103 with all fees except state taxes. Taxes (Nevada) are estimated at $880. Current financing through MBF is at 1.9% interest with the first two months payed by MBF. Base price of the C350 is $39,000. Discount from list was $4416.00.
I hope that provides forum members in other countries a better understanding how the the US market works for MB automobiles...

The car business is so competitive here that pricing is manipulated by the makers to gain market share. You can load most MB cars up with options and the price becomes quite high, but still all of the features and options available for a specific model may not be available to US buyers. Most options are packaged per model, that is you cannot select from the huge list of options available in Europe no matter what you want to pay. The Gl, ML and GLK made in Alabama builds models for export that contain options not available to US buyers. It is a convoluted business to say the least.
BTW... gorgeous beach area. I visited Cape Town in 1956 and enjoyed my stay (yes I am that old...:-)

Yep - understood - Lived in Dallas & Marin County - Bay Area for a number of years. I know the US car market reasonably well.
We are lucky with the factory here - We just tick the boxes & they build our car - No packages.

Small point - the GLK is made in the EU, not in Alabama. And the US price for that one is also a raging bargain compared to the rest of the world.
Rumors persist that the Alabama factory is being readied for production of one or more 204-chassis models, either or both the GLK and C. But for now, that factory produces only the GL, ML, and R.

Your history looks like mine... started in 1977 with a 280E Sedan. Great automobiles all!

Yeah... I had a '77 Seville stolen and ordered a replacement. When it came in I refused delivery because of the poor quality build. Stopped at a MB dealer on the way home, bought the 280E after a test drive and have been hooked ever since.
