Where's the telephone microphone?

I've had this car since September 29th, 2007 and I still don't know where to talk when the telephone goes off.

Any suggestions for someone who is stupid?

To the right of your steering wheel is a small round mesh.

Thanks,

I couldn't tell if that was the mic or the temperature sensor for air conditioner.

The other day, when I was speaking to someone through the system, I thumped on that mesh screen and asked if the listener could hear the thumping. They said that they couldn't. That caused me to think that maybe it wasn't the microphone.

Vic,
You mean where all the push buttons are for the interior lights between the rear view mirror and the sun roof?

By the way, is there suppose to be a dim light shining on your feet at night?

Yep thats the place, and footwell lights are equipment dependant, you must have the Avantgarde (954) or Elegance (955) package.

I've got a 2008 C300 with P2. I just don't remember those lights being on before. Think I might have some button pushed that shouldn't be. Its a very low glow, but don't think it would be much good for anything other than atmosphere/mood.

Vic,

While you're here, are the replacement low beam bulbs common enough to be bought at non mercedes parts stores?

Both high and low beam are regular H7 bulbs, can be bought anywhere, if you have Xenon the low beam bulb is called D1S

Vic,

Thanks for your help on this.
I see that I have the Bi-Zenons since I have the P2 package.

Question I have is that the color of light coming from the lowbeams is slightly different than the high beams...even though they're suppose to be the same bulb (according to the owners manual) The high beam is a little warmer. Has me wondering if they stuck a halogen in there instead. Maybe they were running low on Bi-Zenons.

Are both light suppose to be the same color temperature?

Yes, but the low beam are also used as high, when you turn on the high beams a screen drops in front of the Xenon bulb wich makes the low beam act as an high beam.

That makes sense, but my owner's manual give the same bulb number for both.

Wish it was the halogen that went out. That'd make it a lot cheaper to replace.

In the owner's manual, they seem to go overboard about having Mercedes service replace the Zenon bulb. If the car and lights are off, is there any danger of electrical shock?

The way that shutter works, could the bulb be good and the shutter is blocking it? Maybe the shutter is frozen?

Microphone is located in the rear view mirror. This is where it is on just about all MB's. Feel the top of the mirror you will feel a mesh ribbing. That is the microphone. There are also usually interior temp sensors both in the "overhead control panel" (Front dome light) and the mesh in the dashboard.

As far as people refering to Halogen low beams. If you have Xenon lights, you don't have halogen low beams, only the highs are halogen and like was mentioned already the Xenon's also adjust to cover more ground.

I heard that if you have the MM pkg there are two microphones in the car, I dont see the point but is that true? maybe a separate one for teleaid and one for BT is what im guessing???

You DO have halogen high beams. But they're only used for flash-to-pass when the main headlamps are off because the HID bulbs take too long to be effective for high beam flashing. Otherwise the low beam and high beam are the same HID bulb; which is why they're called bi-xenon. A shutter moves out of the way when you flick the high beam on to let the light spread out the rest of the way.

Since the mic question has been answered...

My footwell lights are blue LEDs. Anybody else have these? (Mine is an Avantgarde S). I think they were a dealer option.
