Upgraded 2010 MM Firmware work on 08 and 09 W204's?

Does anyone know whether you can get the new 2010 multimedia system firmware installed/upgraded into a 2009 or 2008 W204 to get traffic integration and the improved iPod integration that allows you to control the iPod directly from the MM system?

It would seem that it should work. There are no apparent changes to the actual hardware in the 2010's, so I'm assuming these are all software changes that should work for older models.

I bought a used 2008 a few weeks back and negotiated free updates on the "navigation system" as part of my purchase. When i go to get this updated, I will push them to "reflash" my MM system to get these new features (if this is even possible).

What functions of your iPod would you like to control from your MM? If you want to be able to switch between different iPod/iPhone sources i.e., songs, playlists, podcasts, shuffle, artist etc... you already have this functionality.

1. Plug in your iPod/ iPhone (glove box cable).
2. Switch MM source to AUX and wait for GAUGE POD display to recognize it.
3. Press the steering wheel (phone) hang up button and then use the up/ down buttons on the left of the steering wheel to navigate to the function you want and press enter/ OK button.
4. navigate thru songs, artists, etc... with the up the up/ down buttons.

Hope this answers your question. If not, sorry to waste your time.

Thanks GedaBlaq. I am aware of this functionality, I just find it very difficult to navigate using this functionality if you have more than say 4gb of music on your ipod. The pictures of the new full MM screeen functionality looks awesome!

Not a problem gausda, glad to help when/ if I can. I'm not aware of the new MM screen or the new UMI cable though. Got any photos, links or more info? I'd like to look into this possible update/ upgrade as well. Thanks in advance.

^^^Scratch UMI info question in last post. Just saw the "Installing UMI" thread. Doesn't seem to be compatible with my car as I have the the full blown MM with tele-aid. Oh well, maybe one day MB will throw us early adopters of the all out Command, an updated "Navi-interface bone".

No, not entirely -- there's something else called MHI or something -- I forget what it is, but essentially its just the media kit for ipod, usb, etc minus the navigation for those of us with MM already... This I would like....

2008 & 09's us a different system than the 2010's. As stated before I beleive it's UMI. MHI is the older phone systems. The Universal Media Interface (UMI) is actually code 518 and is only found on certain '09's and up, and apparently not on the c-class until 2010.

No, UMI includes navigation, 518 is MI (also called something else, was it UCI).

I have not checked the differences between 2010 and earlier models, some may exist.

Yup your right sorry about that.

UMI is the interface that goes into '08 & '09's to give people with Audio 20 radios both Navi, Ipod interface along with some other perks.

UCI is the interface that is used on the '10 C-class as the ipod interface along with USB interface. This is the 518 code.

Thats it -- the UCI! Now if only I could find a dealership (or someone) to install that sucker for me, I'd be in heaven... I had the chance to play with it in that GLK I was testing for a weekend, and the whole UMI system rocked... I can only imagine the ipod control on a nice BIG MM screen!!!

Thanks guys. So, the UCI is the option needed to get the ipod controls in the center? Has anyone installed this successfully on a 2009 or 2008? I'm assuming that there would still need to be some sort of upgrade to the MM system to get it to recognize the UCI and read the iPod info... and to also have the traffic info interface with the nav. Wonder if you can at least get the traffic integration without the UCI with just a firmware upgrade.

At this time UCI does not seem to be a retrofit to vehicles without it. It's not just a matter of a wire. There is another control module mounted behind the glove box / dash.

With that being said nothing says it won't be available in the future.

I wonder if this has all of the required pieces:

Looks like it might be a little more difficult than the back-up camera add-on.
