With my MB connections I can purchase a C63 steering wheel for a reasonable price, however I have the manual transmission on my car, what would you guys do with the paddles?

Leave them or remove them?

And what wheel should I get?, the all nappa leather or the alcantara wich is included in the AMG performance package?

I have a small feeling that the alcantara could be quite a dirt magnet over time and its hard to clean. its also a bit more pricey than the leather one.

nappa is clean but alcantara is sex!
and personally i'd remove the paddles.. it seems stupid if they are not functionable.

Downside is that removing the paddles will reveal two rather large holes in the back of the wheel, sure they wont show much but I dont like it, maybe Ill fabricate some kind of plug for the holes.

yeah, kinda silly to keep the paddles if nonfunctional, but better than the eyesore of two large holes imo. Go with nappa unless you plan on adding other alcantara accents to the car. Otherwise it'll just look out of place.

Youre right, I even think the alcantara wheel looks kinda out of place
on a C63 ..
But I really want a new steering wheel, the stock sport wheel is just so hard, rough and uncomfortable, I really fell in love with the steering wheel on the W212 sport the first time I sat in one

Unfortunately it was to damn expensive so the C63 will have to do

The C63 steering wheel is very nice and feels so good, go with the nappa and you may be able to customize covers for the paddle shifter holes.

When I considered buying the C63 wheel, I thought I would just use the bases of the paddles as templates for some kind of plug. You could probably have a CNC shop make something out of aluminum to stick into the holes.

Actually might have to reconsider, I must have looked at the wrong part number when first looking into the W212 sport wheel http://www.benzinsider.com/wp-conten...17-540x405.jpg seems like its not as expensive as I first thought, the good thing about this is that if I order a 212 wheel I can order it for a manual without paddles, and I will also get the snazzy aluminum strip on the airbag

The first time I took my car in for service, they gouged a big tear in the steering wheel(no idea how/why that happened) Anyhow, too bad it was before the Nappa leather was standard on the Cs...maybe I will ask for the same tech next time...

Just to clarify to people who get confused, only the c63 alcantara one has nappa leather, the other standard perforated leather c63 is just the standard leather but not nappa. I hope ths helps

"Instant gratification simply isn't fast enough!" How long would you have to wait for the 212 wheel if you really wanted it? What's the problem waiting a while? Is the stock wheel all that bad?

My stock wheel (C300 sport) has a "gouge" on the rim where I sliced it with a thumb nail. Talk about cheap leather! Oh well, can't see it and often don't notice it.

If I want something I cant get it fast enough
The only real difference between the C63 leather wheel and the W212 sport wheel is the aluminum trim on the airbag.

Cant stand the hard and rough feel of the stock steering wheel, cannot understand why they havnt used the softer nappa leather as in the 212 models.

Strange, I have felt both wheels and as I remember both of them were smooth as a babies butt on the upper part, not at all as the rough fake leather stock sport wheel.

Do you have detailed pics of the two wheels?

I dont have detailed pctures however i have both steering wheels in front of me and I can guarantee you that the stock c63 is not a nappa leather, but a grainy leather. only the upgraded c63 performance package is half nappa and half alcantara. the stock c63 leather is still better than the stock three spoke sport leather however the c63 leather is not the smooth nappa leather that we love. I bought both steering wheels and also the appropriate airbag for my c250cgi i ordered since early march. I prefer the stock c63 because after a while it will not get as dirty and worn out easily like the c63 alcantara, but my dilemma is I prefer the smooth feeling of the nappa leather in the top part of the alcantara steering wheel.

Is it possible to have the stock sport version steering wheel re-wrapped either w/ nappa leather or alcantara leather?
Anyone know how much that might cost??

I would recommend to leave the paddles and use them as your most used function buttons. Your choice, be it the volume, answer/hung up phone, change ipod/radio station, etc...
