Cost of transmission and sun roof service???

I just rolled past 39,000 miles on my 2008 C300.

I already did the oil change service and would like to know how much others are paying for the transmission and sun roof service.

I'm likely to get the MB dealer to do these and would like to have a ball park idea of how much it cost so I don't go into cardiac arrest when they pass me the bill.

Thanks in advance.

We may be interested in asking our in house forum MB tech from Scandinavia what is involved & you may be able to drain the oil yourself. He may be able to tell you whether a filter change is involved.

nyca,

Cleaning and relubricating the contact points.

I really want MB to do the tranny service. If it goes out, I'd have a better case against MB. By the way, isn't 39K a little on the low side for getting a transmission serviced? Thought it was a bit strange as most cars its higher.

Bull S*%^#That is incorrect information. Read you service book. The 7 speed box service is at 50,000 km or 3 years.Anyone who goes over this service interval is crazy.

Do the transmission service for sure. I put 23K miles per year on my car, so I will be doing it soon too. It's probably expensive, but what can you - I don't think its a DIY job.

I haven't opened the sunroof once since I bought the car, I'll be skipping that.

I called the MB dealership and spoke to a service rep that estimated that the transmission service is around $225. He said that I could clean and lube the sunroof myself. He's going to show me which silicone paste that they use next Tuesday when I take the care in for the transmission service.

nyca, I asked him about me needing the sunroof maintenance given that the car is only 2 years old. He said that the lubricant still dries out and that I'll still want to lube it. Since he isn't pushing that they do it and is going to show me which lube they use so that I can do it myself, I think he's probably right about the car needing it.

Well, if you are a transmission specialist, please tell us why.

If you aren't, perhaps wiser not to advise members to invalidate their warranty, or wreck their chances of a later goodwill payment?

I have to say that a transmission service at 39,000 miles sounds early. I'd also have to say to wait for 100,000 miles sounds like a recipe for disaster. Wonder if the poster sells transmissions.

Having thought about it for a few days, you're pretty much at MB's mercy about this. If you follow their recommended maintenance on the transmission and it later breaks, you can at least claim that you followed their recommendation. If you don't, you can bet that they'll tell you that its your fault and they can't help you.

There is no MB recommended interval for an oil change on the 5 speed auto box of the C 220 & other lower HP engined MB vehicles so I do not think it is a MB conspiracy to recommend an oil change on their 7 speed auto.It is a completely different design & there must be a reason ie more foreign body accumulation?.
My MB mechanic who I have no reason at all not to trust, recommends that I change the oil in the 5 speed box at 60,000 km. I plan keeping the car for 15 years or until I fall off the perch so will comply.

Carsy,

I noticed that there is also a brake fluid replacement at 2 years.

If you don't mind, please check with your MB mechanic to see what he says about that.

I have previously spoken to my MB mechanic about the brake fluid change . He definitely recommends doing itat 2 years to protect internal components from rust & to maintain efficient braking ( ie no boiling of moisture in brake fluid )He recommended using DOT 4 complience fluid.

I think most makers recommend it. Audi and Mazda do. Can't really remember about my Pontiac, but I think GM said the same.
