Get VIM by doing a Hard Drive Hack

VIM would be a cool thing I'd probably use once just to do it. However it would be nice to be able to manually enter addresses in to the GPS while driving. Sucks that even my wife can't do it while I'm driving - stupid "save us from ourselves" mentality... It would also be nice to be able to upgrade the HHD to a larger size. But in reality, I haven't even half filled my current drive - the SDHC cards are just too convenient - and you can't RIP a CD while listening to something else. It would be nice if you could copy from the memory card to the HDD directly.

Wow, so the new nav update removes those lockouts?? That's nice! I would imagine that WIM is still locked out since I think that's the law here in the states. But just being able to enter addresses while the car is moving would be a welcome feature!

No need to over-think this entire thing. It can absolutely be done in a firmware update w/ auto update disk... Just like a firmware upgrade from MB. The COMAND in these are MELCOs. They are almost identical to the Mitsu's.
At one point I am pretty sure that we found the field that needed updated but all of us got busy with work and didnt have the time to pursue the auto update disk.

VIM for Mercedes
Hi,
i just bought my brandnew SLK 250 CDI with command online and dvd-changer and i am trying to unlock video in motion.
This thread sounds very interesting, i have also read the complete mitsubishi thread. But the last post is exactly 2 years old. It says, it can be done - but - is there any result for vim?
Did you get it work with an update stick or cd/dvd or can you patch the hdd?
Thanks a lot

Could this be a partitioning issue then? Also how did you do what you did with the new hard drive? I would l Think that if you could replace the current hard drive with a solid-state drive you would have better performance with navigation? Lastly there's got to be some really supersmart computer guy On this forum that can figure out how to crack the VIM.

Same in computer:
This hdd mod was only for testing that it can be done. Samsung hdd working temperature is +5...+50 degrees C, but our winter is way colder and summer in car temperature may be over +50 degrees C. SSD working temperature is like -50....+80 degrees C.
To do:
1. Copy more than 6GB mp3s to hdd and see what happens
2. Find PATA SSD.

I think this 6GB limit is in comand firmware like VIM. You can see on the first image that comand actually sees right size (HDD2 - 46GB).

Also how did you unlock and clone the HD ? Did you use Otaku code? dont keep us hanging, thanks.
the two codes for the 204 are :
B2 BA B3 BC B0 DF AC BE B1 BB BE DF B1 AD D2 CD CF CB DF B1 9E 89 96 DF AA 8C 9A 8D DF DF DF DF
and
B2 BA B3 BC B0 DF AC BE B1 BB BE DF B1 AD D2 CD CF CB DF B1 9E 89 96 DF B2 9E 8C 8B 9A 8D DF DF
same as for the 261, one is a user code, the other is a master code.

Are you able to see the content of hdd1, VIM setting is in Windows CE I think. Otaku_tta from http://www.takingthingsapart.org/ help Mitsubishi guys with same MELCO head unit.
HDD1 - 1GB partition with some screen backgrounds and I didn't dig any deeper. But maybe there's something more, have to double check.
HDD2 - 7GB Music register with cd database info.
HDD3 - 1GB Phonebook, business cards and some log files.
HDD4 - 28GB Navi partition with maps and voice guidances
I didn't see any windows files there. I think windows files are in comand flash because comand works fine without HDD.

Some guy who unlocked it in windows:
Hiren's bootcd for cloning and partition resize:
http://www.hirensbootcd.org/
I did a raw cloning and then just resized hdd2 to max available space. If anything still unclear, then just ask!
I've heard that you can enable VIM with MB Xentry Vediamo Factory Software. About €1000 + multiplexer hardware hack and you can make some money.

Little update. I got some good news and bad news. So the good news is that my Samsung hdd works great even in very low tempereatures like -10 degrees C. No error codes at all checked with Xentry. Also I found some interesting features like VIM but all settings were greyed out. So this "Xentry (Vediamo) with developer mode" rumour may be true after all.
And the bad news. I burned two mp3 discs one Verbatim DVD-R DL and 2nd DVD+R DL so about 8,5GB + 8,5GB of data for the HDD2 expriment. The file manager starts fine and then it starts coping. After couple of minutes "Coping failed" and the disc is unreadable. Same story with the 2nd disc. Then I burned two regular DVD+R 4,7GB. First one copied successfully. Then checked music register memory it showed 1,3GB free. Inserted second dvd and it started coping. Then suddenly this appeard:
There is no point to add bigger hdd to the comand. Music register size is limited to 6GB in the comands windows ce 4.2. Only thing I recommend to do is the image of the original hdd. If the original hdd fails you have a backup and with couple of bucks you can add "new" hdd. I rather not say how much the dealer asks for it.
So what now? Cheap PCMCIA SDHC card readers here I come with 32GB micro SD from my phone.

Hi
Someone please can help me? I know that is one old thread but I have one W204 with HDD 30GB, and would like to upgrade to HDD 40GB to get the lasted MAPS that can only be upgraded to 40GB HDD.
I purchase a few HDD 40GB to do this, already use 2 without any luck.
1 - Format to FAT32 all in one, 40GB and put in car hope that we created the partitions, nothing lock the HDD and the radio only see HDD1 with almost 40GB (+- 38GB) and could not upgrade from DVD the maps, also now its lock so cannot see on Windows or reformatted.
2 - Format to FAT32 with these 4 Partitions (bellow): HDD1 - 1GB, HDD2 - 7GB, HDD3 - 1GB, HDD4 - 28GB. Nothing lock the HDD and the radio only see HDD4 with almost 40GB (+- 38GB) and could not upgrade from DVD the maps, also now its lock so cannot see on Windows or reformatted.
Can someone please help me to know how to format the HDD, or how can upgrade my HDD.
Step by step please...
Read all the info up, but still no idea.
Thanks guys,
JOSE

Yes it's a laptop HDD (automotive grade) with FAT32 file system.

Yes I used Otaku's first code and it worked great.

Jose -
I would try cloning your current HDD to the new one first... then try the upgrade and/or resize the partition appropriately.
