otaku, I gave mirage a walkthrough to do the HD unlock. He has a euro comand unit though, so not sure the codes we have will work. Any way we can sniff for his codes?

If so we can get a ghost to play with

There doesn't seem to be a country specific code, like there is for the 261.

the two codes for the 204 are :

B2 BA B3 BC B0 DF AC BE B1 BB BE DF B1 AD D2 CD CF CB DF B1 9E 89 96 DF AA 8C 9A 8D DF DF DF DF
and
B2 BA B3 BC B0 DF AC BE B1 BB BE DF B1 AD D2 CD CF CB DF B1 9E 89 96 DF B2 9E 8C 8B 9A 8D DF DF

same as for the 261, one is a user code, the other is a master code.

Is it asking for the password after booting to CD? You need to make sure it loads the linux ISO first. Check BIOS to make sure CD is first in the booting order and you should be good.

Well it is on hold. Out of four laptops 2 are SATA, one is 1.8" ide, the other is IDE. The IDE laptop is 10 yrs old and won't POST. I will try a laptop at the office tomorrow. If that doesn't work I will order a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter.

Yup... I actually removed everything but the CD from the boot sequence with no love. It probably has something to do with 15 yr old BIOS crap.

No. Is normal for a laptop to ask the password while it is trying to access an encrypted hdd. Just hit enter to go further. Boot with that linux distro from CD and unlock it.
DO NOT use space between the hex digits.

E:\MelcoMapUpdateSenario.sce is a scenario (a kind of batch file in DOS/Windows world, shell script for the rest)

All the best

If I just hit enter and went through the password it was unable to unlock the drive.

I ended up hot swapping them and it worked out.

There has been a software hack on C63s?

The VIM kit is way overpriced in my opinion. I also do not like how it integrates. I would prefer that the entire system works as it does now but not kill the video while rolling down the road.

That is odd. Do you have any idea what was changed? It may give Otaku an idea of what to look at.

I have a ghost image of my drive so I should be ok. I was actually considering throwing a larger drive in. Maybe I will do that and try one of the updates to unlock VIM.

So you're saying the guy tried, and failed? Then obviously he wasn't capable...

yes, obviously the guy that failed was not capable, since this similar MELCO unit has already been proven to be hacked and have VIM unlocked through software over at the mitsubishi forums linked in this original post...

i happened to get a great deal on a used mid city VIM module in the mean time so i am using that, but i do really hope someone here cracks this with software for everybody still sitting on the fence..

Do you not know, how one slight difference in code can **** the whole thing up?

A $4-800 wiring harness is way over priced IMHO. It really doesnt matter what it does.

If you get the same hdd and copy the partitions and images to the new hdd to test on and keep the original as a backup, it should be fail safe right?

Theoretically... It does not back up firmware though.

Kind of on track of the post above, has anyone tried to get just a blank hard drive, and ghost the image from one to the other? Would that work? My thought is if you just ghost it, you can make the partitions as big as you want and have more room for music. The only downfall I can see is maybe making the partition too large and command not recognizing it?

I have not tried it *yet*. When I have a little bit of time to tinker with it I plan on giving it a shot. I will probably just throw a normal HD in to see if it works ok... If it does I will get an automotive grade.

Is it just an IDE drive or something else? Just thought, maybe a solid state drive would work since we have to compensate for vibration anyway...
