Instructions for changing dust filter?

I can reduce my Service B by $100, if I buy the $38 cabin dust filter and replace it myself.

I searched for "dust filter," but didn't find anything.

Anyone have instructions on changing the dust filter? From past cars, it usually isn't too easy?

Thanks

It isn't as easy as the W203 which was in the engine compartment.

The W204 filter is above the passenger's ankles. You must remove the covering panel (torx bolts below the glove box door) which is held in place by the lower side panel (be careful when pulling it straight back) which in turn is pinned in by the door welting. And before that comes off the door sill must be removed by grabbing one end and lifting.

I changed my filter last month and it was only moderately dirty. But since I had it out and the new one was right there, I wasn't going to put the original back in.

the basic dust filter is located in the engine compartment. THe charcoal filter is located in the glovebox area. To remove the dust filter, remove the black 10mm plastic nut and lift the black housing up. THe filter is inside the housing. THe black housing I am referring to is the one on the passenger side engine compartment near the firewall.

100% wrong. The W204 does not have a charcoal filter. The W203's cabin air filter is above the battery and is released by three (maybe two) spring bails.

The semicircular black plastic box under the hood above the battery in the W204 is a water trap and there is no filter there. Release the three spring clamps at the top of it, lift it out and see for yourself. And, the rust on the shaft of the squirrel cage blower you will see is normal.

See my previous post.

Thanks RLE. I wish there was a bit of a DIY.

Do you think if I let the dealer do it there is anything too obvious they would scratch up? I don't normally trust them on the interior.

RLE, What is the filter made from ?. Is it possible to wash it out & return ?. My previous car's cab filter 9 Peugeot) was a type of fibre glass/ plastic which washed out well for 15 years.

Paper. Pleated German paper. Letting it get too schmutzy is going to cut down airflow but you can pull it out to eyeball it. Allow 30 minutes for the first time. I think it requires a 4mm torx bit to undo the three screws under the glovebox door.

Many thanks RLE. Sounds as if a new one is required when needed as even German paper does not wash too well !!
