Windows Down/Up via key fob
Hey guys,
so I am not new to the idea of using the keyfob to open the windows on a hot day, or close them when i forget to before taking out the key.
but Ive noticed that it doesnt always work. Most of the time, I cannot get the windows to roll down even if I hold the unlock button for a long time, multiple times, just doesnt work. And the same goes for rolling them up via the lock button (though it works more than rolling the windows down)
what am I doing wrong?

even when i point it right at the sensor, it doesnt work all the time... i have to usually press and hold 3 or 4 times ... could this be a battery issue or could this be a problem with the sensor or programming?

6 feet is about right. Make sure the bottom of the key is pointing towards the sensor on the door. It doesn't work well when you are doing it from the front of the car. Directly perpendicular to the door works best and you can rotate yourself all the way to the back end of the car as long as you are in the line of sight of the sensor.

I didn't even realize this feature existed ![hammer](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/bonk.gif)
Tried both our cars (08 E and 09 C) and it works on both. Did not test distance, but it worked in the garage, opening and closing.

Maybe that's what I am doing wrong? ![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
I found out about the feature about a week after getting the car . . Tested it out but it only worked once out of every 4 attempts. I guess it might be because I hold the key almost an inch away from the sensor.

I thought that cannot be true if you just point accurately to the IR receiver (the beam is narrow and you have to be accurate when pointing from close to the door).
But I tried it with my 221 and I had to more a couple of inches away from the sensor before it started working. If I touch the sensor with the key, it does not work. I wonder is it because of the IR signal being too strong from that distance, saturating the receiver?![Confused](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
An interesting observation.

I hadn't either.....
Just stand by your driver's door and press the UNLOCK portion of your key fob. JUST HOLD IT.....and after a few extra seconds, watch all the windows and sunroof open. LOCK does the same thing in reverse. You will figure out how far away your car can receive this signal, but the target is that little square on the driver door handle.

I find it basically useless, You are so close you might as well get in and open everything up. Now if it worked from 20 or so feet away from all sides it would be usefull to me.

yup I had the same problem, thought mine was faulty, then realize I was standing WAY too close to the sensor...same thing...1 inch is too close, ever since then it always worked, no fixes, nothing, just stand further lol

useful on a hot day to are everything out. Last week when I posted this, it was constantly 100 degrees here and I have a black interior and exterior.
also useful when you forget to close a window. since you have to lock the door with the key anyways, might as well hold the lock button for a little longer to close it for you

I find it quite useful on those hot days here (temp about 80 F) when the car's been sitting in the sun and getting hot inside. Just walk up, unlock and open windows, then pop the trunk, take out an ice cold soda, and drink some while the car cools off.
We don't get 100 degree days very often, so that's not a problem.
This is a nice feature for cooling off the car without unnecessary use of the A.C. And it's nice to close up the car when you walk away. But I'd rather have tunnel mode. Oh well.

here is a good tip that is related...
If your sun roof stops doing the one touch close and needs to be reset by the dealer, I found that this also solves the problem of the key opening and closing of the windows as well
the sunroof reset and the key open/close reset are related and they both are fixed by the same reset, if that makes sense...
my key wasnt working to close open windows anymore, and my sun roof was jacked up too and not closing... they reset the software and they both started working basically...

u definitely need to reprogram at the dealer under warranty... now that i have been reprogrammed, i can close the windws from 5 feet away while aiming at the side mirror basically, no joke... before i had to be very close and aim directly, and then it would only close intermittently and stop if i slightly moved my hand from aim...
