Greetings,

I have the 18" AMG wheels on my car, and the standard summer Conti's for tires.
After the light snow I encountered at home in Virginia, the stock tires were treacherous.......

I plan on ordering All Season Tires next week for my 2008 C300 Sport, I see at tirerack they have the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus recommended as replacements and these new Continental Extreme Contact DWS, they are a little cheaper than the Michelin's and are actually rated a 1/2 star higher and have better warranty.

Would anyone care to share their recommendation and or experience if they have purchased the new Continental DWS tires.

I have followed other threads concerning tires, so I appreciate everyone writing in those threads, good reports....

I have read all the reviews and reports/tests on tirerack as well, so it comes down to the Michelin's or the Continental DWS All Seasons.

Can't comment on the Contis. I replaced the OE Conti Pro Contacts with the very Michelins you are looking at and they are outstanding. I always remind myself that the only contact my car makes with the outside world* is through the 4 tire patches, so I make that the last place to compromise.

I appreciate your comment and you have convinced me to go woth the Michelin, I had been leaning towards the Conti's as they were OEM, but your recommendation/comment as confirmed what I had originally been leaning towards.

I also intend on using the same AMG rims and TPSM just install the new all season tires.

Maybe someone would be interested in purchasing the stock Conti Contacts, they have 8000 miles on them and are like new! If some one made me a fair offer, they are theirs!

I just had the DWS installed yesterday. Drove about 60 miles so far and I like them. I did stomp on it and they broke loose like mad but I kinda expected that. They were quiet and comfortable, though, on the highway.

I also replaced my contis with the conti DWS and u can see a major difference. I have about 6000 miles on them and they ride comfortably and the car seems very stable in rain, have to wait till winter for snow.

You will certainly enjoy them. I noticed they became quieter after break-in, too. As for selling your old tires, I had an OE set of those Contis with just about 700 miles on them.....and I still have them.

I have a 4MATIC, and i was wondering about trying out some different tires, but have not bit on that yet. I think this winter, I will try my stock tires on my hill and see if I can creep up the hill since I could not in my former C230.

you might want to give the GoodYear Eagle F1 All Seasons a look. they're made in the USA, too.

i just bought a set of them today and they seem fine... all four mounted, balanced, installed, and an alignment for $950 including tax - plus i get $50 back because of a rebate after ai fill out the form.

You will not be sorry - A friend runs them on his AMG - They are a fabulous tyre for A/S - Conti tyres are an unhappy combination with the W203 & W204 suspension set up. They start noisy & get noisier - They cup & feather. They give a hard ride - yugh - I threw them off of both our 203 & 204 with low mileage on them & fitted Michelin - never been happier.

If you want summer tyres then PS2 or Exalto PE2.

i like the look of the Conti's though... i am at about 16k and will need tire in about 2-4k

The Michelin Pilot Sports purchased from Tirerack were installed this morning, and although I probably have a grad total of about 15 miles on them, WOW what a difference, both in handling and reduced noise.

Guess I'll see how they perform if and when I hit some light snow?

I appreciate everyone's opinion and contribution/recommendations posted here!

Great - you need to experience that difference personally to truly understand how large it is. Esp noise.

how much heavier are the michelins than the stock contis???? do you lose a lot of performance since you are switching to an all season tires over the max performance tires?

ie would accelerating from stop be slower than with the stock lighter contis on the 18" amg wheels????

trying to see the pluses and minuses of the michelins that everybody seems to rave about... are their any minuses????

i have never bought tires before by myself and appreciate your advice

slight fuel economy loss possible with stickier compound than hard OE tires....and purchase price....other than that, I believe its all "pros".

I HAD THE EXTREME CONTACT TIRES ON MY E430 AND THEY WERE LOUD AND VIBRATED WHEN COLD. DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE DWS BUT I WOULDN'T BUY THE EXTREME CONTACTS AGAIN.

I've only got a few miles on them, but I already notice a significant drop in tire noise, and they actually feel snappier driving on the road as far as grip and turning, braking appears the same!

I did quite a bit of research on the tirerack.com website, and in addition, I listened to everyones opinion on this forum, and made my decision based on that information and everyone's experience with their tire choice?

ya i just hate to lose a little fuel economy and a little speed and handling off the line... the car comes with the stock contis for a reason, they are best suited for maximum performance of the car...

the contis are actually noise free and very smooth on smooth surfaces... its the rough roads that are horrible...

i would want a smoother ride on all terrain with the michelins but the thing is i can get four new conti tires for $800 which is a better deal i think since i live in so cal where there is no harsh winter...

i would really like a quiter ride though... dang i cant decide!
