Did you just post over on the health forum about how to unthaw jingle bells when they get frozen together?

Most South African W204s have anti-hijack auto door locking triggered by the LH front wheel ABS sensor.

SA W204s do not have pull up pins - they are merely indicators that retract into the door. There is nothing to pull on

You should have a button on the dash that locks out the back doors so that kids can't open them from the door release handles.

Well, I'm gonna check mine. I want to know how it works.

For those of you without kids, they don't have to be 'stupid' to be impulsive.

HI Glyn,

definitely no button on dash for locking. Just weird that BOTH front and back doors can open up even when "locked".
Will take it to the dealer. But the usual bullcrap that that is how it works and live withit!

thanks all for contributions. will report back

OK..got back from dealer and as predicted " this is the way it is and cannot be undone".
So we are stuck with a lockable door that allows people on the inside to open it - accidentally or intentionally - as a safety precaution.
Child lock does work for the back doors - but really is draining to either change the child lock option when adults are in teh back seat or continuosly opening the back seat dors for 'guests'.

No kids to worry about but I understand your concern.

BTW - Never leave your keys in the car & spin the LHS front wheel while changing a flat or whatever. I think it triggers the lock at 7 rotations. The one way you can lock yourself out of the car. Yes, you have a spare key but you generally don't carry it around with you if you are messing around at the roadside for instance.

Yes - Merc do all sorts of things in the name of safety. Sometimes less than logical. When the impact (crash) sensor is triggered - all locks are released however.

Brilliant design. What if the front passengers are in difficulties? What if the unlock area become inaccessible? What if the unlock mechanism fails as a result of the damage? Being able to escape on one's own is way more important than anything else AFTER an emergency.

My battery has recently been replaced, and since then this feature (where all doors unlock when a front door latch is pulled) does not work. Now, if a front door latch is pulled that door is the only door that unlocks. Do you have any idea how to return to that feature? Thank you!
