Extended warranty?

I have an 08 C300 with ~34,000. I was quoted $4,490 for the 7yr/100K mile extended limited warranty. Is that a good price?

Is that seven additional years (I doubt it) or two additional years added to the original warranty? I think it's a lousy deal.

If it's only two years more, do you think you can drive 50K more miles in that time? Do you think the car will need $4490 in repairs in those two years? I don't and I'm not springing for the warranty.

BTW, in 2008 there was a dealer somewhere selling these MB warranties for cost plus a few hundred dollars. There is a large markup.

Yea, this is pretty pricey. This quote is from Lisa. She's the one that does $100 over cost. I dont think its worth it.

But what is cost? I'm sure the cost increases with respect to the car's age.

Not with the MB warranty the dealer sells. You can't buy it after the expiration of the original factory warranty. I bought one on a previous car just before 50K miles.

They may tell you that there are two prices but there is so much markup that they can afford to discount it a bit to get your money early. They prey on the gullible.

So, what should i expect to pay for 7years/100k mile warranty for a 2008 C300 with 35k miles?

I think you should forget about it and after the original warranty expires and you have spent $4490 in repairs, get rid of it.

I think the above is the most sensible advice re: manufacturer ext. warranty I've heard in a while. This is essentially my plan.

I posted this in the W203 forums...people, save your money and only pay for repairs that are needed. An extended warranty is rarely if ever a good deal. Search this forum, there are a lot of posts on extended warranties.

Anyway , why pay for future repairs you may never need? The whole extended warranty business is a scam.

Extended warranties rarely pay for themselves (even with a Mercedes)....check out consumerreports.org

Since you mention W203 and I never do having bought one...

I purchased an MB extended warranty for my 2001 C320 (reliable as a $5 nuclear bomb) and the repair costs it paid for during years 5 through 7.5 exceeded the warranty cost substantially.

The MB extended warranty for my 1995 C280 also paid off big time.

I wouldn't buy one for a TV or toaster, however.

But, the W204 is not going to be like that.
