Bad day - Windshield rock chip
Today I got a rock chip on my windshield, I have C300, it looks like a little dent located on the passenger side, about 2mm wide with three little cracks extending another 2-4mm long. I took the car to the dealer and service rep. told me that it is not worth repairing as the repair doesn't guarantee that the chip won't spread over time, or due to temperature changes, or I was told that it could get worse while they are trying to repair it.
I was reading some posts on here about this topic and I'm getting confused.
Is it worth getting it repaired/they told me the cost would be around $100 for the repair and the new windshield around $700-1000/.
Thanks for your advise.

That BS, look for mobile winship repair guys, or go through your insurance company, windshield repair should be a standard coverage with no deductible or cost to you. I get rockchip repairs all the time and the people who does it, normally guarantee the work to not spread. If it does they will repair it again for free.

I think that this windshield is very prone to chips and/or cracks. I have two instances where a small rock came up and chipped the windshield. It did not crack it or have hairline fractures, but when you look at the windshield it looks like a black small dot is where it hit the windshield, almost like brake dust or something. Normally I wouldn't care about something so small, but it is literally right in front of my face above the steering wheel and it gets pretty annoying. I hate to put it through insurance, especially for something this small. Is there anything that I can place on the windshield myself to make it less noticeable? It is very small, smaller than the camera on my iPhone...

Repair might prevent crack propagation. Chip is a weakness place and will have stressed abound it, so by injecting polymer/glue into chip you may strengthen it and minimize stresses (windshield is constructed of multilayer glass sheets). I usually do repair chips and it works very well, however there is a chance that such repair might cause crack propagation (might trigger during repair job). It should not cost more than $30-50 for such repair, well if crack propagates, so be it you must replace your windshield, so the upside is that repair might prevent this for a while (next chip or crack)

$40 here in NY from a guy that does mobile work. GSA certified and does a lot of work for the dealers.
Mine was done in under an hour and hardly noticeable. Figured it was better to be safe than sorry.

I brought my car to a place that specialized in windshield repair. I was kind of unsatisfied because you could still see the chip/crack after the repair. It was less obvious and no doubt stronger (more resistant to spreading) but it was still there and caught my eye. But the whole procedure was free from insurance, so I guess I'll just live with it till then entire windshield needs to be replaced at some point. Prob just bought myself a couple more years...we'll see
