I use 4GB Extreme IV and 8GB Ultra II Sandisk Compact Flash cards with Sandisk PCMCIA adapter and never had such issue.

I bought a no-name 16GB SDHC from eBay (Hong Kong), and no issues with skipping. Do you have another card you can try? Maybe you can isolate the issue.

High speed is need for digital SLR cameras an like, it also helps in the car when the card is first inserted but any slow memory card should be fast enough for MP3 playing. It could be your PCMCIA adapter or the memory card.

I just received the Transcend CF 8gb Ultra Speed 133x card with the Transcend CF Adapter, no problems at all. Loading of music from the CF card takes no longer than a DVD. I am very happy with this method, pretty easy to replace songs on a whim without wasting/storing/maintaining of disks.

Diesel Benz, I guess I can measure this a little more accurately since I only have about 2GB on the CF card, currently. I might have misread but for some reason I was left with the impression that reading through PCMCIA with comparable volume was a bit slower compared to DVD...
