"C" and "S" Tranny
2010 C300 4matic with p1 package. When changing from C to S in the Auto tranny...how do you keep it from resetting back to C when you shut the car off? Get tired of changing it to S every time. Is there a way to program this and then in Winter I will change it back to C?

Actually, the manual states that:
So if he had it set to S before he switched off the engine, then it shouldn't be going back to C by itself after a restart. Unless the 2010 is somehow different from our '08.
The last selected program mode (C or S) is
switched on when the engine is restarted.
switched on when the engine is restarted.

In my 2010 manual it says that car returns to C when shut off. But that may be for the Advanced agility Package which is what I have and all I read. He should just read his manual.

What a flaw...they tell you to have it in S during the spring and summer and go to C the other half of the year....but you have to keep changing it.....very flawed.

You mean your MB dealer or a single person there is saying this. This is not what MB suggests. They actually prefer you to drive on C all year round to get lower gas consumption and only to switch for S when preferring sporty ride. Someone explained that this would be necessary to make the reported gas consumption figures valid for regulators.

Mercedes Dealer would be the same as MB Dealer. As far as a single person...it was the owner of the Dealership

I think you would end up with less engine wear by starting in C mode from a cold start. I always turn my car to C in the morning until my engine temperature has stabilized, so I'm in the opposite boat as you!

To be honest with you, I do not believe that you are truly seeing the results of C vs S, if you live in the states!! It (S) causes ur trans to change gears at higher RPMs (Closer to Redline), fortunately Im in Germany, so I see the difference in the driving. Primarily make the switch, when I am going to pass someone on a secondary road, or when I am in the mood for some fast driving on the autobahn, other than that, mine stays in (C).

A flaw indeed. I like mine to be at S at all times and it stays that way (2009 model). C just makes it start on 2nd gear for winter driving, while S starts you off on 1st gear when you are stopped.
While you might get a little better fuel economy, I prefer the sportiness of S.

Don't understand the statement of a flaw. MB made all 2010 models default to C every time the car is started. This is as stated already for efficiency. "C" Controlled Efficiency I beleive they refer to it. If you would like to drive sporty then just push the button.

Yes, 2010 models default to C. This is one of my biggest complaints with the car. Why should the car decide what mode I want to drive in? I want S all of the time and it is irritating to have to change it to S everytime I start the car.
Maybe this is some type of forced fuel conservation plan......but I own the car, it shouldn't own me!
