Nav Help/Question

is it possible to add the navigation into a non nav c300 ourselves? or through the dealer?

Lets say i have an 08 c300 without nav, and want to add it in after purchasing the car. has anyone done this? or gotten a quote from the dealer? or can we buy the parts from the dealer and install them ourselves?

let me know, thanks.

Here's a much more cost effective solution.....

Garmin + Arkon mount.
http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-GN047-Re...2469504&sr=1-1

Fits the right A/C vent of the center stack perfectly, when you need it. Makes the whole thing a couple of hundred dollars for a great Garmin Nuvi vs. some price, over a thousand...I don't remember exactly, to retrofit an MB nav system that isn't that great anyway.

Found the link you want....apparently $2000 for parts if you follow his DIY instructions.

seems like it would be 1500 in the states, probably worth just spending more to get it with the car instead of the hassle

No most likely closer to 4,000.00 Vic works for MB so he gets discounts and has access to STAR.

The problem with the navigations that you purchase yourself is that when I go under a bridge, even a short one about 20 ft. the camera looses connection. Then by the time the connection comes back on, I have already taken the wrong route.

You also have the option of installing the Universal Media Interface :

I'm not sure I understand........

I've never had that problem with our Garmin Nuvi, in fact, it's somehow able to maintain our correct position even going through a tunnel near here, which is about the same length as the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel in your area. I watch the car icon make progress on the screen and it matches when we exit. But, what camera are you referring to? There is no camera in my nav.

I have a Tom Tom navigation, it always gets lost and it's favorite thing to say is " you are now off track" (lol) but I guess I bought a bad one. Cost me around 500 bucks

Wow....sorry to hear that....Garmin Nuvi 765T has never had a hiccup and came with maps for US and Europe, so we can take it when we travel and rent a car. Same price. With the Arkon mount on the right A/C vent, it lays right up against the instrument panel and oddly almost seems built-in. I actually planned to do this and rejected the MB built-in nav because I just couldn't see 5 times the value ($500 vs. $2500!). Turns out to have no downside I can find

Hard to explain the difference between your experience and mine. Take the better of the two with you on your test drive and enter the same destinations on the Mercedes and the Garmin or TomTom. Compare the routes and see which makes more sense.

I do know that the route our E Class will suggest depends on which way it is parked in our garage (or wherever we are starting from). If we parked front in, so that its pointing north, it will give one set of directions to a given destination. When backed in, it gives different directions to the same place. It turns out the algorithm built into their system is averse to u turns and would rather send us on a different route to avoid them, even though we're just parked!!
