It seems now you have no side markers at all....not a good idea, as you may find out in a roadside "meeting" one day
.....or night!Good thing you're not somewhere with a lot of older folks with diminished eyesight........oh, wait......Orlando!!

OK....one last try....it is a violation of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards administered by NTHSA and illegal to produce and/or sell new vehicles in the US without the side markers...the only ones running around are very old or produced in extremely low volume under an exemption. In order to get that regulation enacted, NHTSA had to demonstrate to the General Accounting Office that the cost/benefit was favorable and that the rule had a positive effect on safety. So, yes, the evidence showed it does make a difference; you can go back and review the Federal Register or check the rulemaking history with NHTSA.
As Senator Moynihan said, "You are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts."
And, you don't have to vinyl over a side marker....lots of people are quite happy replacing the yellow lens with clear or lightly smoked, either of which allows the light to be clearly seen at night.
